Pontcirq (French pronunciation: [pɔ̃siʁk]; Occitan: Pontcirc) is a commune in the Lot department of the region of Occitania in south-western France. As of 2020, the commune has a population of 178, with a total of 93 residences. Six historic buildings in Pontcirq are listed on the Base Mérimée. One of these, the medieval Labastide-Floyras Fortified House, is also listed as a Monument historique.
Demographics
editAs of 2020, the commune of Pontcirq has a population of 178 residents, including 82 men and 96 women. 13.7% of the population are under the age of 15, while 48.5% were 60 or older. 14.1% of the population between 15 and 64 is unemployed. Of the 49 workers within the commune, 10 work within the commune itself, while 39 travel to an adjacent commune to work. 51.7% of the population is married, while 5.3% are within a civil solidarity pact.[2]
No hotels or other lodging establishments exist within the commune. Of the 93 extant residences within the commune, 43 were built before 1919, and 8 were built between 1919 and 1945.[2]
History
editThe Base Mérimée lists six historic buildings in the commune. One of these, the medieval Maison-forte de Labastide-Floyras, 'Labastide-Floyras Fortified House', is additionally listed as a Monument historique.[3] Other listed sites include an early 17th century stone house, two forts possibly dating to the early fourteenth century, alongside the parish church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens. Portions of the church structure date to the twelfth century, while later components (including the chapels and church tower) were added in the 17th and 19th centuries.[4][5]
