Naming conventions

Hi, I noticed that in mid-December you moved Medusa (Annie Lennox album) to Medusa (1995 album). I don't really understand your reason, "why change a well referenced article", but anyway, the guidelines on naming music album articles is that when disambiguation is necessary, it is done by artist name and not year of release. See WP:ALBUM#Style. I'm going to go ahead and move it back and clean up the links etc, I just thought I'd let you know what the convention is on this. --Qirex 14:38, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

The format can be changed on citing restaurants. Let me know. But since you have an article such as "Krystal (restaurant) — second oldest fast food chain in the United States, founded in 1932" I believe such restaurants above should not be deleted. Part of history.

Thanks for the reply with regard to "laboratory thermometers". There are many different, specialized thermometry techniques that are used in laboratories throughout the world. Phosphor thermometry is one of those techniques and one with which I have some familiarity. So I thought it might be an appropriate fit for the laboratory thermometer category. Btw wowturkey is moving to another server, so it is unviewable. I am a member of wowturkey.com, and wowturkey.com allows anyone to use the images uploaded to its server, as long as they state it is from wowturkey.com. Image Licencing

I did as you requested and found a source for the Uzice.jpg image. The only trouble I'm having is what would the licence be, if the author shares the image, and puts no copyright information on his site? Besides that, his site has a whole lot of copyrighted images that he didn't create, and he gives no credit. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually stole the image. Can you help me with the licencing for this? - Thanks

While reading your post, I honestly haven't found exactly what issue you have with the image. When I posted the image I listed it as a television licence, and even stated in the image discription that the photo is property of The WB, and that it was a promotional photo of actress Holly Marie Combs for their series Charmed. If you want me to specify the source of where I originally recieved the image, I will place it on the page. • I've looked over the various tags and agree with you that the image is not a screen shot but a promotional photo released through The WB. Hence, I've added the Promophoto template to the image page. I've also listed the website (the WB.com) as being the source of where I originally recieved the photo. 2/14/06: Update: I spoke today via email with Ms. Hendryx's manager, Vicki Wickham, in NYC. She confirmed that her management company owns the image and we have permission to use it. Therefore, the image is owned by Take Out Productions, 630 – 9th Avenue, Suite 216, New York, NY 10036.

Am I correct in assuming that this situation fits under the "open content" category, or, if not, please specify which category and please direct me to an example or template to follow, and I will get the complete information from Take Out Productions.

I believe that the entire idea behind the website was to promote the police work done by Lee Donohue, and I feel your request to delete a public record photograph that has been released to both the media and the public by HPD is incorrect. Thanks for working on the list of notable books, moving articles where needed, but the goal of the project, like all WP:MEA projects is to ultimately reduce the list to zero, so adequately covered books should be removed not moved to the lower list. You may have noticed I reverted your updated counts we count both blues and reds in the count. I'm sorry to have correct your well intentioned work, but the section title "Unverified blue links" means that someone hasn't gone through yet to make sure that the blue link actually covers the book in question. While the list was created a while ago, it has not seen as much work as other "notable" lists such as the film and album list. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Thanks for your question, hopefully I can answer it without providing you even more confusion. The objective of the list is to be whittled down to zero by covering the red linked articles and removing the blue ones. The way that I have worked with list like these is to add comments to blue links that should not be removed (covers a different topic), while removing items that have been adequately covered (article covers item in question) [1]. This way people know if someone has "checked" that article and can work on other items. When "enough" verified items have accumulated in the unverified lists, they items may be moved around [2]. This is at your discretion. You can create a separate section, keep it in unverified blue links, whatever works for you. The only organizing principle is to only remove valid blue links and make red links blue. You can arrange things how they best work for you (be bold), it will likely work for someone else. Please note some lists require an infobox, or categorization, this only requires and article. If the article is less than a paragraph long, I usually add "expand before removal". I hope that helps, if not, feel free to ask. I will do some example edits on the list to show you what I mean.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I clearly mentioned the source of the photos were from the U.S. government and therefore are in the public domain. Speciffically, the images are screen caps from videos released by the U.S. White house itself. Please remove your tags from the pics. Thanks!

And I found some of those pictures here, http://www.ffcompendium.com/low/art.shtml and this website states nothing of any copyrights and so forth. And I found a few here too, http://heeya.oolim.net/ff8-charactor.htm and this website is in another language with no copyright signs at the bottom nor the top.

Just in regard to the above uploaded images:

I understand where you're coming from, and I've changed the relevant ones, but the sites I've provided should be sufficient enough.

afl.com.au releases the photos, and as a local newspaper writer, I've used their resources countless numbers of times with no qualms regarding the copyright legalities. It, generally speaking, is a press release photo, but there doesn't seem to be a category anymore..

As for those gathered from the online sites of newspapers, nowhere does there seem to be any legal issues regarding copyright. If you're looking for all this specific info outlines in several places here, you're looking for something that cannot be found, in my opinion. Definitely, if the specified photographer was noted, then yes, he needs to be included, but nowhere can this be found for the above images.

IMAGE PROBLEMS

Hi, sorry to bother you. I have uploaded several images, which are publicity photos of actors from a BBC television programme. However i have had several messages from you saying that the uploaded images havent been sourced. I have included the appropriate tags for promotional/publicity photo, but i dont really know what to iclude for source. The items all state they are copyrighted to the BBC. do I need to state that in my rationale? They are all scanned photos, so i havent got them from the net. I had thought that publicity photo's were allowed by wikipedia.

I'd appreciate any help you can give

Hi, thanks for replying. They are copyrighted to the BBC, but so are so many other images that have appeared on wikipedia and they have been allowed to remain without these sourcing questions. The images im putting on are promotional autograph pictures that are sent out to anyone who requests them. I dont think they are possible to get on the net. I have had a look through those articles you sent me, but I cant see what else i'm missing out. Should i state that they are copyrighted to the BBC?

OK, what is the difference between getting a photo from a web site and getting a screenshot, because most of the photos I see that are claimed as "screenshots" seem to be just sngle pictures and not shots of the whole webiste. Fair Use Images

You've added a heap of image warnings for me and I just want to run through with you exactly what is wrong with the images I'm uploading and (if anything) what I can do to make them "okay"... I'm new to wikipedia and new to uploading images so bear with me!

Okay... first of all I've uploaded images from http://www.misshongkongpageant.com. The individual url of each image (which I admit I haven't included) is http://www.misshongkongpageant.com/usa2005s.jpg where the year is altered to reflect each Miss USA titleholder.

The summary I've given for each of these pictures is: Image taken from here: http://www.misshongkongpageant.com but original ownership is with the Miss Universe Organisation. This image is used by them to promote the Miss USA winner pictured.

Perhaps I should have added the exact url but what other information is missing? As far as I know the page the picture is on is simply a secondary source but as the images are in a suitable format for wikipedia I decided to use them. Other than assuming that the images come from the Miss Universe Organization, I do not know any more information about the actual pictures themselves. Another thing to add is that these official photos are used to promote the winners (as I indicated in the summary), and as such I believe they belong under fair use (promotion).

Secondly, Image:DE06.jpg (and others in the 'series')... again these are used to illustrate and promote the titleholder concerned. I just realise I forgot to put "from Paul Sirochman photography"... if I add this to the current summary will they be allowed? What else needs doing.

Thirdly, Image:RImain.jpg as I indicated this image was emailed to me and as such has no url and I don't know who it is from. There is no source of this photo on the web so far as I know, other than that which I have uploaded. Again, I believe it is a fair use of the image because the image is promotional (used to promote Leeann Tingley), so what else can I do?

Probably you are aware of this now but just in case... changing an image's tag like this can only be done if you are the copyright holder. You can only ever license under CC-BY-2.0 (or any CC tag, for that matter) if the copyright holder explicitly states that they license the image that way.

Anyway cheers, it looks like you're fighting the good fight in relation to image copyright. I'm a Commons editor so I know it's an uphill battle!! pfctdayelise (translate?) 01:07, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm very confused as to why this picture was deleted from the page. I was replacing one that did not have a source. Does the picture not have the proper licensing as a screenshot? There are many other articles which have screenshots so I don't exactly know what's going on. Do I also need to include the link where I got this from? This time I can elaborate on my usual answer by saying that already back in 2004 I stated that I had no idea about the source of the Udo Jürgens image. I still don't have a clue. If you use Google's image search ("Juhnke Jürgens Francesco") only that very image and a reference to Wikipedia are shown as results. Thanks for your posts regarding the Clayton Banks page. That bio that I posted is an official updated bio, and the alleged copyright violation is an aged bio posted by someone who doesn't represent him. The photo Banks.jpg is his official public headshot. I blanked out the page, because it is better that there be no bio, than one that is alleged to be a copyright violation. I appreciate Wikipedia's sensitivities regarding copyrights, and look forward to contributing into the future. Ben

The WVIK contour map is FCC (US Government source) .. and is required for ALL US radio station licensee to be publicly "on-file" - per FCC regualtions. This is used for many Radio station postings (I have contributed and cleaned-up over 20 stations in the category). It has been suggested by User:BrianSmithson and supported by User:Syrthiss that the Beer and brewery categories should be renamed. This proposal has been supported and expanded by myself. The notion is that the regional categories should follow the format of "Beer and breweries in Africa" /Europe/Asia/North America/South America/Oceania. "Brewers and breweries" could also be renamed "Beer and breweries by region". And all the countries should also be renamed (and merged if needed) as, for example, "Beer and breweries of Germany", "Beer and breweries of Britain", "Beer and breweries of Poland". The word in each case would be beer rather than beers to allow for general articles on beer culture in each region as well as individual beers.

Wellll.... Lindsay Lohan has a screenshot from "Another World" despite it only being one line about it. It also has a screenshot from SNL with Tina Fey, with no identifiable commentary on that appearance. The policy is so vague in that sense that anyone, including you or me, can basically stretch it to whatever purposes they want. The picture for Smith contributes to the article, obviously, because it has no picture and it identifies the subject. ""discussed in his article" cannot simply be a line in the filmography" is what you, not the policy, wrote, and if that was true that those two pictures of Lindsay Lohan I mentioned shouldn't be there in an FA. I believe the point of Wikipedia is to create a free encyclopedia and not to "stretch it [policy] to whatever purposes" - that is not the spirit. And if a FA has a screenshot not following fair use, then it will be removed, and You might know that FAs are demoted and edited all the time, they are not supreme perfect articles. An article needs good writing in my opinion, not just a bunch of non-free copyrighted images, just because fair use images are available. There is nothing wrong with You uploading screenshots, but please use them carefully. I hope that You can see that i'm discussing this matter to make this project better and sounder. Well you should remove the screenshots on Lohan, then. The SNL appearance picture at the bottom is not discussed at all. Good writing is definitely good, but an article should have at least one picture, and if there are at least one-two lines about it, it seems fair to me and that's what I've seen everywhere on Wiki when it comes to actors. So, can I restore the Smith picture? "Cheaper by the Dozen" is certainly given at least some consideration in what is a pretty short article. JackO'Lantern 21:36, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

I think the other screenshots have been discussed in the article and help it, as these two are just for illustration. I'm still unsure about that image too, as it doesn't add nothing new as content, just her face (and doesn't tell anything about the milestone) and there are already 5 such images in the article.
