Soumyajit Roy (born July 29, 1976) is associated with the Department of Chemistry at IISER Kolkata, India.<ref>{{cite web|title=Dr Soumyajit Roy|url=http://www.iiserkol.ac.in/component/sobipro/?pid=54&sid=199:Soumyajit-Roy&Itemid=0%7Cpublisher=IISER Kolkata He is at present an Associate Professor (2015-till date) at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, India and leads Eco-friendly Applied Materials Laboratory, (EFAML) in the Department of Chemical Sciences of IISER-Kolkata. The areas of scientific interests of the laboratory include: Soft-oxometalates (SOMs) and Polyoxometalates (POMs) in photo-catalysis. The overarching objective of the laboratory is to understand how simple interactions can lead to complex materials. Soumyajit is interested in popularization of Science in his mother tongue, Bengali. Soumyajit is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). He also serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Molecular and Engineering Materials (World Scientific).
Biography
editSoumyajit was born in Kolkata, India and completed his schooling from Hindu School, Kolkata and later his graduation in Chemistry from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. He obtained his M. Sc from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India and his doctorate with a summa cum laude from Universität Bielefeld, Germany, working with Prof. Achim Müller (2005). He thereafter worked as a post-doctoral researcher at van’t Hoff Laboratory for Colloid & Physical Chemistry, Universiteit Utrecht, with Prof. Willem K. Kegel, in the Netherlands (2005-2007) and at BASF SE’s Polymer Research Laboratory, at ISIS, Strasbourg, France (2007-2009). Before joining IISER-Kolkata as an Assistant Professor (2011-2015) he was a Professor at Changshu Institute of Technology, Jiangsu, P. R. China (2010). Soumyajit has also authored a novel, "Flairs of Forgotten Fragrance" (2014) and another book "Dutch Touch" (2010)..
