Thank you for your comment

Thanks for leaving a comment at Fair_Game_(Scientology). Presently I'm involved in a "request for other editor's comments" at Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Terryeo#Outside_views, it is an attempt by another editor to have me banned from editing for a "lengthy period of time" due to his disagreements with me. I appreciated your polite comment and used it in my reply to his (and other editor's comments. I'm not exactly sure of all the procedures around here myself and I don't know that your input into the matter is appropriate or would make any difference, but I referenced your comment and appriciate your having made it on the Fair Game Discusssion Page. If you have any other questions in the area, feel free to ask me on my discussion page which you can get by clicking my name wherever you see it appear. Happy editing :) Terryeo 17:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Just be sure not to accept any free stress tests from Terryeo :D. And be sure to visit this link http://www.gerryarmstrong.org/50grand/cult/sp/pl-1968-10-21-cancel-fair-game.html if you really think Terryeo & the rest of them are honest. LamontCranston 21:58, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
I`m amazed and honoured at how one post gained me some attention from the debate`s heavy weights. What was writen is writen and what was meant is meant, but its meaning may be harder to discern. But I`m sure Terryeo is honest in his belief. Dryzen 15:38, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

From the Coordinators

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Military history WikiProject's newsletter! We hope that this new format will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new groups and programs within the project that they may wish to participate in.

Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome, and will help us improve the newsletter in the coming months.

Byzantine Heraldry

edit

Hi Dryzen,

As requested, here is the list of Byzantine Noble Families and the heraldic description of their Arms. It's very difficult to get a hold of any information regarding shield types (if, in fact they used shields to display them). I would say that the usual square flags/banners/labarums were used; and if any shields were used in armorial blazons, they may have been used after extensive contact with dynasties from the "west". Shield designs in the Byzantine Army were usually ancient Greco/Roman patterns and religious motifs/images (Cross, Virgin, Christ).

As far as format goes, digital vector graphics would be preferable. Though, just being able to have a look at what they were like would be great - so, I'm not too fussed. Here is the source of the list - http://www.christopherlong.co.uk/per/vlasto.byzantium.html. Dragases 00:19, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedian. I'm looking for some help at Scanderbeg. I 've left a message at the project page but noone responded. If you can and if you are interested, please check this french book (it is in public domain) so that this article (and perhaps the many related articles) gets improved. Thanks! talk to +MATIA 06:46, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the message, I have not been paying attention that project page over the weeks. I've never heard of Scanderbeg before. If you want some work done fast I'm afraid I can't help you. But if your willing to wait, I can put it on my to do list. I can not give any proper estimation on when I could get to work on this tough, events have been forcing me away from my worklist over the last few weeks. Dryzen 12:50, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

edit

please check the ongoing discussion about "princess" title on Talk:Margaret of Connaught - it will have implications that many medieval women will soon get the courtesy prefix "princess" before their names in article names. ObRoy 21:35, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your editings at Byzantine battle tactics. Sorry if can't contribute more to the article but the only partner of mine in wikipedia seems to have been left the 'pedia itself and my job doesn't give me more than 15 min per day... --Philx 04:17, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

I completely understand I find myself in the same situation. The massive computer calculations of yesterday gave me the time to log in for a much longer periode than my daily 30 minutes. Hopeful I' ll get more to do in the commign weeks to post up more information on the Byzantines.Dryzen 13:29, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Military history of ancient Rome

edit

Hi, can you name me a goo dsource for the military history of ancient Rome during the Imperial period? The featured German article covers only tactics, equipment and organization then. Kingdom, Republic and Late imperial period are well covered. Wandalstouring 22:45, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

I can point you towards this good Roman Empire site. But that's it for internet sources. As for Books I wouldp oitn you towards sevral of Osprey's Books, namely, Rome at War AD 293–696. There are several other books that look into the subject whom I cannot remember the names of at this moment. I'll look into my library and post them later on. I hope this helps. Battle of Chalons map

Could you draw a map of the battle of Chalons? Thank you. (We work on getting this to featured article status) Wandalstouring 21:32, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Assistant Coordinator position

edit

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that, per the result of the just-concluded election, you are now an Assistant Coordinator of the Military history WikiProject!

I would ask that you place the coordinator page on your watchlist; its talk page contains a scratch pad and discussion area that should be useful in keeping track of needed coordination work.

More generally, I'll be laying out some thoughts on potential short-term plans for the project here; you are cordially invited to comment!

Congratulations, and thank you for all of your hard work! Kirill Lokshin 00:02, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Byzantine discussion

edit

Thankyou for your contributions to the Byzantine discussion on Talk:Byzantine Empire! This has been a very interesting discussion, and I value what you have said, as well as the polite way you have posted. Thanks :) Bigdaddy1204 22:38, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Its been my pleasure to share my passion and my knowledge of the Byzantine with you and the other admirable wikipidans that sought to join the discussion. I think it only natural to hold calm and polite dialogue, to better respect our peers and to convey insight.--Dryzen 14:34, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Hello Dryzen. Concerning your last edit summary in Template:Byzantine Empire infobox (which u self-reverted). The medieval Greeks named their state 'Ρωμανία', whereas the official name was 'Βασιλεία Ρωμαίων' or 'Βασίλειον των Ρωμαίων' (=kingdon). It is more or less the same as the modern Americans or Spanish name theirs, a.k.a. 'America' instead of 'United States of America' and 'Spain' instead of 'Kingdom of Spain' (in spanish, of course). so, i do not think is any sort of a big deal:). Byzantine 1025 Map

edit

You have said my 1025 map differs from your own. May I see your 1025 map? My own map was based on an image in the book 'The Byzantine Wars' by John Haldon. I look forward to seeing your map for comparison. :) Bigdaddy1204 22:52, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

We are making some changes there, just take a look. Wandalstouring 19:25, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

English sources

edit

Hi Dryzen

Can you fetch some English sources on Iberian, Gallic and Germanic warfare (tactics, strategy and equipment)? In the article Roman infantry tactics Delbrücks conclusions from 1920 are quoted, but they are not really up to date. Wandalstouring 22:08, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

new toy

edit

Kirill Lokshin and me have developed a new toy (discussion):

External images
helms
Front
Rear

Implemented in an article it can look like in Mongol bow (including some misunderstanding) or Indian Wars. While we (mostly me) think it is a great thing (contrary to the long frustrating negotiations for images that can not keep up with the rapid expansion of articles and new requests), it would require some people to use it and not overdo it. You just have to google missing images and insert the url with a short description. I would really appreciate it, especially for the feedback. Thank you a lot. Byzantine Empire

edit

Hello! I know you have been a keen contributor to the discussions at Talk:Byzantine Empire, so I am eager to know what you think about the latest proposal on that page. There is a vote about whether or not we should change the Byzantine Empire from pink to purple in all the maps of the article. I would be very happy to see your support or object, or even comment on this issue. Please let us know what you think! Thanks, Bigdaddy1204 13:32, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

map creation service

edit

I think about starting a map creation service with capable editors (as part of the requested images departement). While you have little time to do something (battle of Chalons) perhaps you could help a bit on technical issues. I talked with user:Albrecht (who does very good work) and I met some others working on the topic, so there are possibly enough guys out there. Wandalstouring 01:28, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Chalons

edit

It certainly reflects the chaos of the battle. Perhaps you should submit it to a review at the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maps. I have so far no objections. Wandalstouring 19:28, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Sry, I forgot to tell you that you have to specify the width in px in order to see the new map. Wandalstouring 19:42, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Could you modify this map?

edit

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6c/Sparta_territory.jpg

If you could remove all red borders we could use this map. I hope that doesn't consume too much time. Thank you very much Wandalstouring 02:33, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello Wandalstouring, pardon the late and sparse replies, things have been keeping me busy away from wikipedia. Lookign at the map you wanted me to modify, I dont think it will be a problem to modify. You want all the red marks gone? How should it be named?

What did you have in mind for the Roman-Spartan War troop maps? --Dryzen 15:58, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

I can gimp the troop movements myself (if I have data), but deleting the red part didn't look good when i tried myself. Call it towns of southern Peloponnese in 200 BC or somehow. Wandalstouring 16:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Information gathering is the longest of steps in making maps no one as ever made. There was a reason why it didn't exist. I'll get on the peloponnese map.--Dryzen 16:24, 31 January 2007

(UTC)

Stop. Map has been modified. Thank you. Wandalstouring 20:43, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
It looks very good. Thank you. Wandalstouring 16:51, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I have self-nominated Campaign history of the Roman military for featured article status: FAC nomination. However, people are being incredibly reticent about remarking on it either positively or negatively, I think a lot of people lack the specific subject knowledge to confidently support or oppose the nomination. Since you I belive have a sound knowledge of ancient Rome, would it be possible for you to post your own comments on whether or not you believe the article is of featured article quality, and any improvements to the article that you think are called for. Many Thanks - PocklingtonDan 11:16, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
