Phase Two

This phase requires more study than the first, and I anticipate it will take no less than four weeks for us to complete. At the bottom of each set, I will give a NET (no earlier than) date so a) you won't feel rushed and anxious to press on, and b) I won't feel rushed and anxious to press on. :-)

review (NET June 15 2009)

You've had a lot of time to think about Wikipedia, and we've done still more thinking together. Now would be a good time to review our time spent together, so go back through our l-l-o-o-o-o-n-n-n-g-g-g first coaching page and consider what you wrote then. Have you changed any of your wiki-thoughts since we last met? Are you interested in different areas now? How have you matured as a Wikipedian since we began and since that block? Take your time. (IMHO, this is one of the most important parts of creating an administrator.)

• Since part I of my coaching, I haven't been quite as active; I left for the summer shortly after and my activity never really recovered until a few weeks ago. So, what I have been doing for the last year on Wikipedia was this: I generally logged on (still found time to get on every day), checked my watchlist and reverted any vandalism and reverted/modified any unhelpful edits on my watched pages. I had something like 200 pages on my watchlist, so I still generally made at least an edit per day. Then, I decided to drop some pages and reduced my watchlist further- down to about 80 pages, cutting back on my wiki time quite considerably. I went on like that for a few months, editing my watchlist pages, and occasionally fixing typos/vandalism that I came upon while reading the encyclopedia. Very rarely, I would also come one and improve my articles (either the ones I created or the ones I've contributed to a lot), which, in reality, is probably what brought me back to Wikipedia- it's a lot of fun adding content (even though formatting references gets a bit tedious after a while).
• So, anyway, about 3 weeks ago, I decided I missed the old Wiki, and made a pseudo-dramatic comeback. I did what I did before- reverting vandalism, fan cruft and other crap (my GA, Reservoir Dogs, is especially vulnerable to that). I'm still not quite as active as I used to be, but I am contributing to the project, and that's what counts (including a return to my article-creation roots with Bob Dylan's 115th Dream). So, now, I think I'm going to continue contributing as I have been doing recently (maybe a bit more active) and see where it takes me.
• As for RfA, AfD and other ungodly abbreviations, I can't say I have contributed much in the past few months, though I am intending to get involved again (especially AfD.... am I using too many bracketed clauses? (because I don't think I am)). So, I am going to try and contribute to some AfDs in the next few days/weeks. I would also like to get a few more GAs added to my wiki-resume, so I am going to try to get an article (preferably one I created) up to GA status. After all, quality over quantity.
• I took a look at this again and don't think I've really changed since the last time I answered. I'm still a moderate immediatist, moderate statusqoist, authorist, though I think I shifted more towards "rehabilism" as opposed to sysopism, because I have seen some disruptive users that later became constructive contributors; I still believe in wiki-pacifism, with my discussed doubts about the 3 revert rule- basically, the only Wikipedia rule I have a major problem with, ironic considering how anti-establishment I am in real life :)

I think so - pretty thorough! I gave up on my watchlist as a regular thing after I got the mop - more trouble/effort than it's worth. I use another method (off-wiki) to track pages.

Everybody takes wikibreaks. It's probably not the best timing to begin an RfA just after a prolonged absence from the project but we're not that close to RfA yet and 3 to 4 weeks of consistent presence will take care of it anyway. I had to take some months away from editing my first year - I gave a short explanation at my RfA and it was all good. You're right that it's quality and not quantity. I also think that your issues with 3RR won't stand in the way if everyone understands that you will enforce the policy consistently - because that's what admins do - and not arbitrarily when you feel like it.

You know, I'm not really coaching you on How To Be A Wikipedia Administrator™. I'm (hopefully!) helping you mature as an editor and a young man, to understand yourself as a community member and to integrate that understanding and maturity to help the project as an administrator. This process may be a little longer and require a bit more reading and thinking, but the process of self-examination and reflection will help you in real life. I've found 98% of the admin corps to be as self-aware and thoughtful as I want you to be, and it's clear to me that you're well on the way. /soapbox ;-) - KrakatoaKatie 05:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

For now, I'd like you to pick a few administrative areas in which you'd like to participate. You can change or add/subtract these later as your interests change. I'll concentrate on developing these areas more than areas that you don't choose.

Remember that we're in no hurry. Take your time and consider carefully before you decide.

All right: I am interested in deletion closing- speedy deletions, proposed deletions, but primarily AfD closures, I think that is an administrative area that is very important to Wikipedia and am a bit dissapointed at the amount of discussions which seem to end with a mere vote tallying. As and admin, that would probably be the main area I'd find myself in. I am also very interested in things like protection and move requests, and just protecting pages in general. To a lesser extent, I do want to do some blocking/warning at WP:AIV and against any long term abusers that I recognise (such as the guy I described on my first admin coaching page who seems to have returned last night after a long break). Okay - we'll start with some deletion.

I've placed the first set of exercises on User talk:Dominik92/Coach2, primarily because we (meaning me!) can add content by sections and won't have to scroll all. the. way. down. to. the. bottom. every. time. (Can't believe I didn't think about _that_ first. Too much dancin' with my sarong. What a nitwit I am. :-)) We'll keep this page for references, like the list of policies/guidelines up there, and some discussion. We'll copy some of it and some of our Phase One content when we go to Phase Three, like a consolidation. I may start doing that soon.
