Fear the Fiasco is a four-piece progressive rock band from Santa Rosa, Ca. The band consists of Tony Wilson (vocals, keyboard), Dustin Farwell (guitars, vocals), Jake Williams (bass), and Trevor Boosinger (Drums). The band incorporates an eclectic mixture of influences including experimental rock, mathcore, metal, hardcore, punk, jazz, and blues. They are characterized by the counterbalancing vocals of Tony Wilson (harsh, raucous lead) and Dustin Farwell (clean, ranging vocals), as well as their technical, polyrhythmic instrumentation.

The band has established local success in the Bay Area underground music scene, becoming one of the area's most recognised underground rock bands. In 2008, they received the North Bay Underground’s “Most Requested Band” title in the Road to Rockstar competition held by local radio stationKXFX 101.7 the FOX[1]. The band has opened for well known acts such as Litany for the Whale, Drowning Pool, Framing Hanley, Phantom Communique, Royal Bliss and Opiate for the Masses.

History

edit

Formation

edit

Fear the Fiasco was formed in late 2007 when Drummer Trevor Boosinger and guitarist/vocalist Dustin Farwell split from the short-lived band “The Variable.” Eager to play a heavier, progressive style of music, Trevor and Dustin each recruited the remaining components to form the group. Trevor brought in long-time friend and Bass player Jake Williams, while Dustin consorted vocalist Tony Wilson. Dustin and Tony were both vocalists in the joke-metal band Helltanica, which was placed on hiatus with the start of Fear the Fiasco.

Self Titled Demo

edit

The Fear the Fiasco demo was recorded in October of 2007 at Prairie Sun in Cotati, Ca[2]. The demo consisted of three songs - "Falling Out", "Subliminal Restraint", and "I Got Five on Time". All songs were recorded and mixed by Joshua Chaddock and mastered by Eric Leavell. In order to create a raw, live sound, the drums, bass, and guitar were recorded simultaneously, while the vocals were dubbed over the mix. “Falling Out” and “Subliminal Restraint” were well received on local radio stations gaining lots of airplay. In 2008, KXFX 101.7 the FOX awarded the band the North Bay Underground’s “Most Requested Band” title.

In October of 2008, approximately one year after their self-titled demo, Fear the Fiasco returned to Prairie Sun to record the Gator Wrestling in Canadia EP – also referred to as the Gator EP. It was recorded over two days by Jason D’Ottavio and mastered by Ben Perkins. The EP consisted of three previously recorded tracks from the self-titled demo as well as three new tracks - “Traitor”, “Pangea”, and “Sunrise Demise.” The new songs further established the band’s eclectic roots and unique sound.
