Standards of written English

I'm keen to see higher standards of written English everywhere, including here on Wikipedia. Most of my edits so far have been copy-editing for spelling, grammar, punctuation and layout, and I expect that this will continue to be the main focus of my contributions. However, I hope to contribute more substantial material as opportunities arise.

I'm not sure if I'm a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome; possibly a bit of both.

International Standard date format

ISO 8601 defines a date format that has several advantages over national formats, and I think it deserves to be used more widely. The basic format is yyyy-mm-dd.

Here are some examples of date formats in wikipedia, mainly for my benefit in trying to understand how wikipedia customises the format:
