How to Revert edit

Go to the page, click on "history" at the top , and click on the time and date of the earlier version to which you wish to revert.

  • Then when that page comes up, you'll see something like "(Revision as of 22:19 Aug 15, 2002)" below the title and beneath "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia".
  • Verify that you've selected the correct version, and click to edit the page, as you would normally. Important: in the case of vandalism, take the time to make sure that you are reverting to the last version without the vandalism; there may be multiple vandal edits.
  • You'll get a warning, above the edit box, about editing an out-of-date revision.
  • After heeding the warning, save the page. Be sure to add the word "revert" and a brief explanation for the revert to the edit summary. Some Wikipedians abbreviate "revert" as "rv". A useful addition is to Wikilink the usernames associated with the versions you are reverting from and to. For example, a good edit summary would be

*{{note|Variety}} {{Web reference | title=Inside Move: Phone number has a familiar ring | work = Variety | url=http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117916866?categoryid=14&cs=1| date=January 19 | year=2006}}

Capitalization edit

User:Sparkit/capitalization

Generally, we capitalize the word state only when it appears after a state's name, as in "We will travel to Washington State this summer." (But make sure that your reader won't confuse your intentions with a visit to the university known as Washington State. Perhaps "state of Washington" would be better.) In the phrase "state of Hawaii," you don't capitalize the word state. And I wouldn't capitalize the word in your construction "Hawaii state schools" because that might mislead readers into thinking these are somehow, officially, state schools (like state universities), as opposed to being local public institutions. Finally, don't capitalize the word state when it's being used as a substitute for the state's name, as in "My father works for the state." It is capitalized, however, in imaginative names such as "the Nutmeg State," "the Empire State," "the Aloha State," and we capitalize "States" when we say things like "We're returning to the States after twenty years in Europe."

& ndash; (en dash) use between birth and death The en dash is used to indicate a closed range, or a connection between two things of almost any kind: numbers, people, places, etc. For example:

  • June–July 1967
  • 1:00–2:00 p.m.
  • For ages 3–5
  • pp. 38–55
  • New York–London flight

The en dash is also used, with a single space on each side, instead of a colon, and around parenthetical statements – like this one – in place of the more common em dash.

uploading images to the Commons to be used by all language Wikipedias plus possible projects distributed on DVD, etc. requires:

What licenses do the files I upload have to use?

All files on the commons need to be under a free license (aka copyleft) or in the public domain. Specifically, commercial use and publication of derivative work must be allowed, see Commons:Licensing for details. Remember to always put a license tag on the description page of files you upload.

When publishing your own work, it is recommended to put it under (at least) two licenses: the GFDL (aka GNU-FDL, the GNU Free Documentation License) and CC-by-sa-2.0 (Creative Commons License with attribution and share-alike requirement, version 2).

{{PD}} says: This image has been released into the public domain by the copyright holder, its copyright has expired, or it is ineligible for copyright. This applies worldwide.

{{PD-user|CDA}}

{{CopyrightedFreeUse}} says:

Fair Use - Only used on United States Wikipedia Try to limit your use of this tag to album covers, book covers, DVD/video covers, movie posters, and corporate logos. (critical - must be low resolution)

Why doesn't the commons include fair use content?

Copyright law varies from country to country. Thus, fair use laws vary from country to country, with each country having its own interpretation and many jurisdictions having no fair use concept at all. As a result, fair use content is seldom going to be usable outside of the United States. As content in the Commons is meant to be used in any country, the Commons does not include fair use content. css clear {{clear}}
