Tartler Family Tree edit

The following article is about the Tartler family tree. It is based on research conducted both online and through family records. People with the surname Tartler can now be found throughout the world, but are most prominently located in the present day countries of Germany, Romania, and the United States.

A Brief History edit

The last name Tartler likely originated from the present day village of Prejmer (German: Tartlau) in Braşov County, Romania. This area was settled by Transylvanian Saxons, people of German decent who settled around Transylvania in the 12th and 13th century. The purpose of these settlements was to defend the Kingdom of Hungary.

Prejmer, or Tartlau was originally constructed as a fortress by Teutonic Knights in the years 1212 and 1213 AD. The town was built later around 1225, and was repeatedly attacked throughout the middle ages by Mongols, Tatars, Hungarians, Ottoman Turks, Cossacks, and Moldavians.

Transylvanian Tartler Family Tree edit

While many links are still missing, based on the information from genealogy.net and familysearch.org, several pieces of the overall Tartler family tree in Transylvania can be assembled.

Homorod Village Tartlers: Petrus (Peter) Tartler Branch edit

The largest assembled branch by far is that which stems from Peter or Petrus Tartler (1865-1954). It encompasses almost all of the Tartlers associated with the village of Homorod (except for Rosa Tartler (1891-?)). It includes 7 Tartler children, 6 Tartler grandchildren, and 2 Tartler great grandchildren. The surname meets a dead end at that point, with only female great grandchildren.

Caţa Village Tartlers: George Tartler Branch edit

Another large tree branch comes from the descendants of George Tartler (1873-?). It encompasses all of the Tartlers associated with the village of Caţa. It includes 1 Tartler child and 4 Tartler grandchildren.

Vulcan Village Tartlers: Many Scattered Branches edit

The Tartlers from the village of Vulcan are not as well connected (yet), and form a series of scattered trees as shown below.
