Jonathan Mitchell (born 16 March 2000) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Bo'ness Athletic. He is a product of the Falkirk academy and has been capped by Scotland at youth level.
Club career
editFalkirk
editA defensive midfielder or defender, Mitchell began his youth career in the Falkirk and Forth Valley academies and in the SFA's Performance programme.[3][4][5] A lack of available defenders meant that he featured as an unused substitute during six Scottish Championship matches over the course of the 2017–18 season.[3][6] Mitchell departed the club in June 2018.[3]
Brentford
editOn 20 June 2018, Mitchell moved to England to join the B team at Championship club Brentford on a two-year contract, with the option for a further year.[3] During two seasons with Brentford B, he made 61 appearances and was a part of the 2018–19 Middlesex Senior Cup-winning squad.[7][8] Mitchell was released in June 2020, when the club neglected to take up the option on his contract.[9]
Stirling Albion
editOn 9 November 2020, Mitchell joined Scottish League Two club Stirling Albion on a contract until January 2021.[10] During a spell affected by fitness troubles and the suspension of the League Two season,[11][12][13] Mitchell made just two substitute appearances.[6]
Bo'ness Athletic
editIn May 2021, Mitchell signed a contract with East of Scotland League Conference X club Bo'ness Athletic.[14]
International career
editMitchell has been capped by Scotland at U17 and U19 level.[15] He was a part of Scotland's 2017 European U17 Championship squad.[16]
