St. Mary's Catholic Church is located in Melbourne's original seaport of Williamstown, Melbourne, Australia. Constructed in the early 19th century, St Mary's was only the second Catholic Church to be constructed in the Port Philip Colony of New South Wales, (which would later become the state of Victoria), after St. Francis Catholic Church, in Melbourne. Originally designed to incorporate a steeple, this was changed by the Diocese of the day, allowing for the construction of a grand structure known as St. Patrick's Cathedral, in Melbourne. Later, the spire, transepts, sanctuary, side chapels and sacristy were built in 1933 to the design of W.P. Connolly.[1]
