Language edit

How do you link to non-english pages? I tried s:XX:article and XX:s:article where XX represents the two-letter country-code but it didn't work.--Adoniscik. Could you add another field for the language, and default it to English? (talk) 19:41, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I was wondering how to link to foreign wikisources as well. Even if best practice demands English wikisources, there are occasions when it's useful to link to foreign ones. Singinglemon (talk) 17:20, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Both {{ws|''[[s:de:Die araner mundart|Die araner mundart]]'' at German Wikisource}} and {{ws|''[[:de:s:Die araner mundart|Die araner mundart]]'' at German Wikisource}} correctly yield "  Die araner mundart at German Wikisource." with a link to the German Wikisource. You can put either the s: or the XX: first, but be sure to use the double brackets to create the link; that isn't done automatically with this template. To link to a page at the multilingual Wikisource, type [[oldwikisource:Title]]. +Angr 12:26, 15 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Edit request from Bob Burkhardt, 28 September 2010 edit

{{edit protected}} Shrink the icon from 15px to 12px. This has been done for {{1911}} and others and seems to allow it to fit in-line much more gracefully. I think a similar benefit would be realized here. Bob Burkhardt (talk) 18:34, 28 September 2010 (UTC) Bob Burkhardt (talk) 18:34, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Another example edit

Catholic Encyclopedia is not the best example to use because it has its own dedicated template called {{cite CE1913}} and it is much simpler to use:

{{cite CE1913|wstitle=The Knights Templars}}

returns

Herbermann, Charles, ed. (1913). "The Knights Templars" . Catholic Encyclopedia. New York: Robert Appleton Company.

I have altered to use another example. -- PBS (talk) 20:34, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Protected edit request on 30 June 2016 edit

Can a |ps= parameter be added to allow users to remove/replace the end period. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 20:35, 30 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

  Done @BoBoMisiu: I've added the |ps=no parameter to omit the period. Let me know if this is not what you were looking for. — xaosflux Talk 03:08, 1 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Xaosflux: yes, thank you. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 13:29, 1 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Now a module edit

Please copy sandbox to main.

Besides using a module, this improves the functionality of the template.

Now instead of giving...

{{Ws|[[s:Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019|Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019]]|ps=no}}

  Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019

You can just give...

{{Ws|[[s:Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019]]|ps=no}}

  s:Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019

And get the same result. Forcing the s: to appear (no one should ever want it to) is still possible, see Template:Ws/testcases. Psiĥedelisto (talkcontribs) please always ping! 03:32, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Oppose the change. If you know the pipe trick this should pose no problem. The question we should be asking, rather, is why [[s:...]] is required in the first place. Perhaps we should also reconsider |ps= when you can manually put a period after the template. At any rate Lua is overkill. Nardog (talk) 03:41, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Nardog: Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act does work, would you look at that. What a waste of an hour.   Psiĥedelisto (talkcontribs) please always ping! 03:51, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
In case I wasn't clear, I don't see why what is now rendered by
{{ws|[[s:Ecclesiastical History of the English People|''Ecclesiastical History of the English People'']]|ps=no}}
{{ws|[[s:Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019|Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019]]}}
shouldn't be rendered by
{{ws|Ecclesiastical History of the English People|''Ecclesiastical History of the English People''}}
{{ws|Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019}}.
. If the intention of the previous construction is to allow things other than a simple link to a Wikisource page (as done in John of Gaunt#External links), then it's almost as if this template shouldn't be used or at best it should be done by e.g. {{ws}} with no parameters showing just the icon. Nardog (talk) 04:11, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Psiĥedelisto:   Not done I agree with Nardog; this is unnecessary feature creep. Besides, converting templates to Lua shouldn't be done simply for its own sake, unless there's some strong need for the template to use Lua. * Pppery * it has begun... 14:46, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Media Viewer edit

It makes sense to add the parameter class=noviewer to the icon. See this discussion. --Nachtbold (talk) 20:44, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
