Updating this and similar templates
edit@L235: We have a similar situation between Moxy and myself here as at the anon template. I tried making some updates to this template to mirror the ones at the main welcome template (e.g. adding a missing link to contributions, switching to Help:Intro, plugging the Teahouse instead of WP:Questions), but Moxy reverted all changes. What is your view of this? {{u|Sdkb}} talk 02:00, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- Not sure how a consensus to change one template equals changing every other related template to the same format. We have different templates for different reasons. I understand some like promoting their favorite layout...but removing the help desk and our main introduction pages all over needs a talk.--Moxy 🍁 02:02, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I do see a significant difference between the changes here and the changes to {{welcome-anon}} – that template was much more similar in form to the {{welcome}} template at the center of the VPR discussion, and the consensus was much more strongly weighted towards the visual style of that template (less links, simplified design) than towards the specific links at issue. So I don't think the edits here constitute reverting against consensus in the same way that they did at {{welcome-anon}}. Best, Kevin (alt of L235 · t · c) 02:04, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- The explicit purpose of this template is to be a shorter version of Template:Welcome. When that changes, this should be brought along with it to the extent possible. There is no reason to think that a discussion about the best links to use here would turn out any differently than the discussion about the best links for the main template, so we should be following the precedent set there. I know you disagreed strongly with the VPR outcome, but really, at this point you need to drop the WP:STICK and stop dragging your heels on implementation. It's just making more work for the rest of us and is not going to change the end result. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 02:12, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- I feel the same way.....not sure why your slowly changing the welcome templates to all the same format with all the same links. Also not sure how using a 66 page tutorial is the short version nor do I see any reason to redirect every interactive help link to the teahouse. Yup time to drop the stick alright. --Moxy 🍁 02:20, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Moxy: I don't feel that the Teahouse is appropriate for every place we offer the opportunity to ask questions, but welcome templates are specifically for new users, and the Teahouse is pretty clearly in my view the best place for them. Can we at least agree on the changes I made outside of modifying the intro link? {{u|Sdkb}} talk 05:38, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- You are relentless got to give you that.....many wrong moves but very persistent. Help desk is the best help forum without a doubt..... many more watchers with much more experienced editors. But we can change it here....ps have you looked at your stats??? 80 percent loss of readers....not looking good thus far.--Moxy 🍁 01:23, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
