Scope
editAs it stood this was a jumbled listing of some of the buildings fronting Palace Embankment, and some other related articles. The Hermitage Museum is the museum body that occupies several buildings of the former imperial residences, and is not a physical location in itself per se. The Hermitage complex on the Neva, or rather, Palace Embankment, consists only of the Small Hermitage, the Old (or Large) Hermitage, the Hermitage Theatre and the Winter Palace. The New Hermitage is part of the museum, as is some of the General Staff Building, but neither directly front the Neva. The Menshikov Palace is also part of the museum, but on a different bank of the Neva, as is the Old Saint Petersburg Stock Exchange.
The Marble Palace, New Michael Palace, Saltykov Mansion and Vladimir Palace are buildings along Palace Embankment, but have no connection with the museum, and in many cases house other organisations. Palace Embankment is the location of some of the Hermitage buildings, but not all, and is not administratively part of the museum, nor is Hermitage Bridge, which existed long before the museum, though it was renamed for the museum complex in 1929.
The scope for this template could either be the museum itself - listing the various properties that it occupies, including overseas filials. Or it could be a list of the palaces and properties that line Palace Embankment. From the early versions of the template, it appears that the former was the original intent. I've boldly reworked it to fulfil the former purpose a little better. As it stood it was misleading, implying that a number of properties were part of the Hermitage Museum when they were not.
