Update

I updated the code in the template so that it can now accommodate both (1) schools with graduate programs only and (2) school that are outside of the U.S. Cheers! —Eustress ^talk 16:14, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

The Forbes line on the template doesn't work

Forbes does not show up on the list. See Template:Infobox business school rankings/example. On a page that uses the template, USC Marshall School of Business, the reference <ref name="USUnivRankings_Forbes"/> no longer is generated. StarryGrandma (talk) 00:30, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

I see that Forbes has been removed. This is a bit hard on those articles that use the template. Oh well, what's another broken reference name on Category:Pages with broken reference names! StarryGrandma (talk) 08:26, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Adding QS TopMBA Global 200 Business Schools Report

QS provides reputable rankings for universities worldwide, so I see no reason to exclude their business school metric from the table. 6mat1 (talk) 14:49, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

There should be a mandatory area for year dates in this template

Year dates should be mandatory on this chart and there should be a mandatory place to put the date for each ranking. Some rankings on charts such as these are over a decade old and massively inaccurate and out of date. Softlavender (talk) 10:06, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

100% agree. This table needs a major overhaul. The dates are three years old from 2019 and the charts are massively innacurate and out of date. I wonder how often it is being updated on business school pages. Perhaps this textbox should be abandoned or completely redone. For example, the economist recently abandoned its mba rankings. The usage parameters and documentation are currently different. The documentation for worldwide mba lists business insider, the economist, and the financial times. The entrance usage parameters are for the Financial Times MBA and QS MBA.

It appears the economist stopped their ranking, and Business Insider just uses the QS MBA as their worldwide ranking. [1]. So that would be left with Financial Times MBA and QS MBA as the Worldwide MBA rankings. Mikecurry1 (talk) 03:41, 24 September 2022 (UTC)

Which rankings do you think should be in here?

I do not think people are updating this often for all these categories, so I just left the MBA rankings, and edited out the subject rankings.Mikecurry1 (talk)

I added the year next to the rankings and updated some individual wiki pages. I am hoping with the shorter list, people will update it more often.Mikecurry1 (talk)

Indeed, since adding the year as recommended to the template, very few pages were updating the rankings regularly. Fewer rankings is definitely better than more, due to the lack of updating of them.Mikecurry1 (talk)

I have updated the documentation and kept the ranking list simple with the year next to each, so hopefully people will update the ranking textbox for the business school at least annually.Mikecurry1 (talk)

Undergraduate rankings

For the life of me, I cannot understand why this template lacks an optional category for undergraduate rankings. It badly needs that. IndyNotes (talk) 02:04, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

@IndyNotes: What rankings should be included for undergrad business school rankings?

I think for undergraduate rankings it would be important to address 4 things.

1) It would be important to keep it updated annually. The worry I would have is that it is entered once, and then not updated, as this template and many business school wiki pages are not updated much, such that the rankings get outdated. Therefore, I would think less rankings would be better than more rankings on the template.

2) liberal art colleges that offer business degrees, and colleges without doctoral programs that are not performing research are not included in many of the undergraduate business school rankings as these rankings focus more on research conducting universities.

3) This is the template for all business school's internationally, such that the undergraduate rankings template would be for france or australia as well. There are if statements built into the template it appears, so they only show for specific countries, such as the US for US rankings, but to note that the undergraduate rankings section could be also for all universities worldwide.

4) US News rankings for specialties like law and medicine have been extremely criticized recently in 2024. For undergraduate business rankings, the US News undergrad business school rankings are based only on a survey from deans and senior faculty. In 2024, over 40 law schools pulled out of the US News law specialty rankings, due to the fact that it is not useful for guiding prospective students into which schools to apply for, and other major methodology issues. After Yale and Harvard exited the law school rankings, 1/5 of all law schools exited the US News law school rankings due to criticism of its methodology. A similar issue happened with US News for medical schools where many major medical schools like Stanford, Duke, John Hopkins, Harvard, etc, pulled out of the US News medical school rankings. I wonder if this is what should be guiding students into an undergrad business program on wiki from only a dean top university survey, as it does not look at student outcomes, salaries, diversity, research roi, etc. Please see us news recent ranking criticism for specialty fields like law, medicine, or I imagine business as well. US News has been heavily changing their methodologies for specialty fields like law and medicine to deal with the big criticisms to them recently. So there would be a question of the US News as a guide to prospective students, where that ranking textbox will be heavily used by many prospective business students if we decide to incorporate an undergrad business school ranking section. All of these potential issues would have me wondering if that undergrad business school section with mainly US News is needed as a guide for students into undergrad business schools? I am open to it, just that there are some major potential challenges that should be discussed (such as rankings being only based on a faculty survey) if undergrad business schools are to be included, considering this will be used as a guide for many prospective students.

Do you have any ideas? I think the rankings textbox entries are not optional on some other ranking textboxes, due to cherry picking issues, if it is there, schools are to include that category. Upon further looking it appears, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and I imagine others are all not taking part in the best undergrad business school rankings too from US News. It appears all three of those top universities are in the business school MBA methodology though, which analyzes additional factors like employment rates, salaries, etc. I am sure there is still criticism of the US News graduate program MBA business school rankings too though it has additional factors besides a survey to decide the rankings.Mikecurry1 (talk)
