Template-protected edit request on 9 April 2015 edit

Per official policy at the actual page and per consensus obtained at Wikipedia talk:Requests for undeletion#User talk page notice for criterion A7 asks users to post here, I would like this editnotice to be created with the contents of User:Gparyani/sandbox (without the user sandbox template, of course). Gparyani (talk) 23:28, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

There's already a group notice for RFU at Template:Editnotices/Group/Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion, as well as Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/Intro, which is shown when the inputbox gadget is used. Perhaps we should merge these in some way? Alakzi (talk) 23:54, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Alakzi: Yes, and also add in my sandbox. Gparyani (talk) 00:23, 10 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Is there something you want me to do? Alakzi (talk) 01:20, 10 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Alakzi: Just create the page notice; it will show up along with the other notices. There isn't any overlap between the two notices. Gparyani (talk) 03:35, 10 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
 Done. I've added it to Template:Editnotices/Group/Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion. Alakzi (talk) 11:00, 10 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

A11? Really? edit

I'm pretty sure this was meant to be G11 ("Unambiguous advertising or promotion"), but just in case—does WP:REFUND really get that many requests for A11 ("Obviously invented") restorations? —Cryptic 23:47, 30 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Cryptic: I don't recall ever having seen one, no. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 23:50, 30 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please change
{{hidden begin|title=Show attendant instructions|titlestyle=background:#CCCCFF; text-align:center;|bodystyle=font-size:110%;}} The following is a list of optional templates for aid in responding to requests. See the [[Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/Administrator instructions|administrator instructions]] for more information. If you are fulfilling or rejecting a request (as opposed to merely commenting on it, but leaving it open), please use at least {{tl|done}}, {{tl|notdone}}, or one of the standard template responses below — by adding either a check mark or an X, you clearly indicate to other patrolling admins that the request has been handled and does not require further attention. If you would like to explicitly indicate that a request needs further attention, you can use {{tl|Not sure}} to attract other users. If you are fulfilling or rejecting a request, please [[WP:PING|ping]] the original requestor (if s/he is a registered editor). Many requesting editors are comparatively new, and a ping helps such editors to be aware of the action that has been taken, whatever that may be. {{UND/Short Doc}} {{hidden end}}

To hide the instructions from non-admins. Thanks! HouseBlastertalk 00:41, 1 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

 Not done: No benefit to users has been provided. Procedures that can only be filled out by a certain group are not usually hidden without reason. There doesn't seem to be a benefit to stop someone with a passing interest from reading what template responses are available to admins. Most places publicly show responses to requests. See WT:MMS (In the edit notice) & Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Procedure for administrators (On the main page). Terasail[✉️] 01:22, 1 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
The main benefit in my mind is reducing the amount of banner blindness / information pollution, which makes people more likely to read the instructions. Unlike the two examples you listed, REFUND is frequently used by newer editors, who are probably overwhelmed by the laundry list present (keep in mind Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/Intro is also displayed to editors who use the inputbox, which is most of them). I know I would be. Is this going to solve the problem? No. Will it help? I believe so.
Looking at the editnotices again, I wonder if the third editnotice would be better placed inside of the instructions for attendant dropdown. After all, it is an instruction addressed to the attendant. The benefits of this change would be the same as the aforementioned proposal. HouseBlastertalk 02:24, 1 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
While I see the concern for banner blindness, the section you are proposing to hide is a collapsed section and in a sense already hidden. Therefore banner blindness (The act of ignoring banners) doesn't apply since it takes minimal screen space. I have reordered the elements so that the instructions come last to minimise any concerns for banner blindness. Terasail[✉️] 15:51, 1 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I am more than happy with the changes you made. Definitely more impactful than hiding a closed drop-down menu for non-admins. Thank you! HouseBlastertalk 16:11, 1 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Make "Deletion" in "Articles for Deletion" lowercase (should not be capitalised, for consistency across the website). Toadette (Let's talk together!) 20:45, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
