Include backups?

edit

Should this template include back-up quarterbacks, like Tommy Maddox, Hugh Millen, Bubby Brister, Gus Frerotte, and Steve Beuerlein, who happen to have started games? Should it be everyone who have ever started a game at quarterback for the Broncos, or only their "number 1" quarterbacks? If everyone who ever started a game, if would be a list of some 40 or so QBs.Johnelwayrules (talk) 00:08, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Some of these players werent backups, they started some games, and so what if it has 40 or more--Yankees10 00:19, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
All of them started games -- The question is, do backups who end up starting because of injury, suspension, or some reason other than demotion count as "starting quarterbacks"? An argument could be either way, and a glance at other team's boxes show different approaches.Johnelwayrules (talk) 00:37, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes because they started games, so they are then starters--Yankees10 01:08, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough - at any rate this make Wikipedia more informative, so why not. I've changed the template and the corresponding pages. A solid list of "designated" starters - the guys the head coach choose as #1 (i.e., from Cutler to Plummer and Griese to Elway, etc.) should appear somewhere (perhaps in the History of the Denver Broncos article?) - as that is also useful. That said, not sure how "official" this designation was in the 1960sJohnelwayrules (talk) 13:36, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Personally I think those who are starting solely because of injury to the regular starter should not be included. If we do include them then they should be in italics with a disclaimer at the bottom. --Tocino 02:44, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

That was my original thought. However, how do we source such disclaimers? In particular, for QBs in the 1970s and earlier, where such information may not be readily at hand, and where in some case no quarterback was quite "designated" #1? Also, it does seem more informative to include every starter -- as I have suggested above, perhaps History of the Denver Broncos would be the proper place to include a list of designated starters.Johnelwayrules (talk) 17:15, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sample with all the starters

Sample with only designated #1 QBs

b.n. For the "official starters" prior to Charley Johnson, I simply choose the guy who had the most starts because I don't believe in the 60s they appointed number ones the way they do today. So, if the long-run decision goes with "official" starters only, this list may require more research. (However, the first, complete, list is correct)Johnelwayrules (talk) 18:14, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
