Matters that are approved: Expanded 5x and new enough, all non-lead paragraphs have inline citations, checks for copyvio reveals no problems ([1]), hook content is verified in article with citation to a RS. Matters that need to be addressed: QPQ review has not been performed. A matter of concern is that content of the hook comes across as using main page to report about a human being's medical diagnosis and surgery, in that it's a basic statement about a medical matter the subject had to deal with, and of lesser relevance compared to the subject's achievements in life. No offense to the subject, but the hook is not very interesting. Is there anything else that can be used as a hook, such as information about the subject's baseball career or performance instead? QPQ is provided. As far as the hook, I thought that was the most interesting thing about him. How many 17 year olds get diagnosed with cancer? Otherwise, his career isn't that distinguishable from others at his level. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:12, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, missed your reply and just went looking for this nomination because I was wondering where it's at. I suppose that works, but I like my hook better. Players change position often enough that it's fairly common. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:23, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Did you know/Reviewing guide advises caution on hooks that place "undue emphasis on a negative aspect of a living individual." Unless there can be a feel-good nature to the main hook regarding the cancer, I'd avoid it. ALT1, is verifiable, but is mundane and not hooky. How about incorporating Cashman's "mega prospect" quote with Austin's being the Yankees minor league POY?—Bagumba (talk) 07:41, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

I don't think this is negative at all. The fact is his cancer was caught early and treated, and he's since gone on to have a professional career. I still think it's the best hook, but I'm open to the other idea. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:09, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

ALT3 ... that Tyler Austin was referred to as a "mega prospect" when he went on to win the New York Yankees' Minor League Baseball Player of the Year Award?

I don't think survived is appropriate here. AFAIK, testicular cancer has one of the highest survival rates, and it was diagnosed early in this case. Overcame seems more neutral. Yankees scout Monoe said he was further drawn to Austin because of his "courage and strength he had through that process, how he was undeterred by it. And how much passion he had for the game." If the article is upgraded to show that linkage between his cancer and his being drafted, I'd be willing to support ALT2. It's probably flow better to mention his cancer chronologically in the bio, instead of as an aside in a "Personal life" section in the end.—Bagumba (talk) 21:29, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Approve ALT4 after satisfying my concern that his cancer was just a trivial, bordering on negative, mention. The hook and article now portray it in a positive light, showing the connection in his becoming a professional player. Recently added image is free, and used in the article.
