Prisons in Bahrain edit

  • ... that anyone, including you, can be imprisoned in Bahrain for calling "in writing for overthrowing or changing the regime"?
  • Comment: I have less than 5 DYK credits.

Created/expanded by Bahraini Activist (talk). Self nom at 10:44, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

  • While not saying that these organizations are unreliable sources (out of curiosity, did you check RSN?) I'm iffy about having such a large proportion of the article sourced to BCHR and HRW. Is it possible to substantiate more of the material with other sources? –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 00:23, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
No I didn't check RSN (and don't know about it). A good part of the article is sourced with Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry which is a government commission. I'll try to include more references where possible. Mohamed CJ (talk) 07:24, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
RSN = WP:Reliable sources noticeboard. It doesn't appear to have come up, so you may want to drop the board a line. –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 21:28, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
I hope I did it correctly. Mohamed CJ (talk) 07:16, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Just checking in. It seems you've got one ambivalent response at RSN, but let's see what other people think. (If it's found to be good, the delay won't jeopardize the nomination, don't worry.) –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 20:52, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

I don't see a RS issue here, but the hook needs to be rewritten somewhat. 'including you' is not the tone we are looking for at an encyclopedia. If 'you' happen to hold a diplomatic passport, Bahraini police can't arrest you. Perhaps we should have an ALT hook looking more at the prison system as such, rather than legislation in general? --Soman (talk) 17:57, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

I picked this fact because I though it would catch more readers. I see your point about diplomatic passport, however this point wasn't mentioned in BICI report "article 68 of Law No. 47 of 2002 on the Press and Publications prescribes a prison sentence for “anyone who calls in writing for overthrowing or changing the regime”.". The "including you" can definitely be removed. Here are alternatives:
  1. Alt1: ... that Bahrain is the top country globally in political prisoners per capita?
  2. Alt2: ... that more than 150 children have been reportedly imprisoned during the 2011–2012 Bahraini uprising?
  3. Alt3: ... that on the same day GCC troops entered Bahrain last year, about 109 prisoners succeeded in a prison break, but were captured later?
The last properly needs small expansion in the article. GCC troops entered on 14 March 2011 (BBC) and the escape happened in the same day (BICI - page 133). Mohamed CJ (talk) 20:27, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Any reviews? Mohamed CJ (talk) 13:24, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT1 and ALT2 are good, though I'd prefer if the link was clearer (people clicking "political prisoners" won't expect to arrive at "Prisons in Bahrain"). I think the children prison is definitely an eye-catcher, so I'm proposing combining them in ALT4. This seems good to go with ALT1, ALT2 or ALT4. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 18:56, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT4 ... that the prisons in Bahrain have contained a large number of children and political prisoners?
Good. Thanks for the review. Mohamed CJ (talk) 19:15, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

You say that you "have less than 5 DYK credits", but I do count 5 credits:

  1. Template:Did you know nominations/Jalila al-Salman
  2. Template:Did you know nominations/Abduljalil Alsingace
  3. Template:Did you know nominations/Torture during the 2011–2012 Bahraini uprising 2
  4. Template:Did you know nominations/Public Security Forces 2
  5. Template:Did you know nominations/Supreme Defence Council (Bahrain)

Assuming that I've got that right (please say so if I don't), would you mind reviewing another nomination? Schwede66 06:52, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

That's because this one has been here for so long. It is older than the last two. Should that count against the nominator, or the reviewers? ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 07:21, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
That reads a lot more negatively than I intended. I mean that since the statement was accurate a month and half ago, we shouldn't hold it against the nominator. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 07:46, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
At date of nomination (17 March), I only had 2 DYK credits. Mohamed CJ (talk) 12:39, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
It's great to see that you have got into the swing of nominating your articles at DYK. Well done. DYK is a project where every nominator should also help to keep the number of unreviewed articles down (your article being one of them). For that reason, the QPQ requirement was introduced some time ago. Granted, you didn't have 5 DYK credits to your name when you nominated this. But now you do. I thus suggest that you undertake a review; this is not holding anything against you, as JohnnyMrNinja suggests, but it merely is a way of keeping this project going. Given that you have other DYK nominations that await approval, you might as well get used to reviewing other editor's nominations. Schwede66 19:28, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough, good point. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 19:38, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Dont think he should be "punished" by our slowness here...hes a regular and does his QPQ's. Now that this is belatedly reviewed we should not just hold it up. He did his nomination job.Lihaas (talk) 13:55, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
Hello Lihaas, I'm not sure we are talking about the same person. I think you mean JohnnyMrNinja. I'm talking about Bahraini Activist, who signs as Mohamed CJ. The latter has, going by the review templates linked above, never reviewed another nomination as part of his own nominations. Schwede66 21:35, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
Actually I have reviewed 2 articles, for 2 nominations, one (Abduljalil Alsingace) is shown above [1] [2]. Basically I have nominated 5 articles then started to review articles for the newer nomination despite still not getting the DYK credit for the previous. Oh and by the way, I didn't nominate Jalila al-Salman. Mohamed CJ (talk) 04:58, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Hey,

I understand it's just a suggestion to get me involved in the team work of reviewing articles, however currently I don't really have time for that and won't have until after 3 weeks at least. Mohamed CJ (talk) 20:32, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Just rubber-stamping here: I think the user is justified in not carrying out a QPQ here, so I'm employing some common-sense and approving ALT4. Harrias talk 10:23, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I'm concerned that some of the phrasing in this article may be too close to that of its sources. For example, "that no one had been taken by masked men from their home" and "the judge responsible for executing sentences and public prosecutors" are both verbatim from their sources. Nikkimaria (talk) 13:41, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Fixed the second one. The first one simply had mistake with using the quotes, the whole sentence should have been quoted instead. Mohamed CJ (talk) 14:34, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
