Louis B. Costello

  • Reviewed: Herbert Payne
  • Comment: If we can get the six week limit waived, getting this on the main page for February 14 might be nice, as it's the couple's anniversary, and it's pretty romantic. :)

Improved to Good Article status by Rockhead126 (talk). Self-nominated at 19:12, 17 October 2020 (UTC).

Interesting life, on good sources, subscription source accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. The hook is fine with me, but probably finer for someone who already knows Bates Student. The image is licensed but doesn't show the two well in stamp size, also not too romantic. So I think the image is out for Valentine's, and I actually believe this meeting would brighten a normal day even more. Let me know if you agree, then I'll approve. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:54, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Was just a thought. Sounds good to me. Rockhead126 (talk) 18:39, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Good to go, thank you. - About the image placement: the left image under the first header sandwiched the text between it and the infobox (which we should avoid), it also displaced the following header (which we should avoid), and showed him as a student before a sentence of his birth appeared ;) - therefore I moved it right. Only after I typed this did I see that you now moved it below, so of three reasons for right, only one remains: displacement of the following header. Your decision. I have almost all images right, making an exception when a person looks to the right. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:50, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
One more: I've seen unlinked names removed from hooks. If you care about her name being mentioned, best write a short article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:54, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
She's got a few newspaper mentions, but I think notability's a bit of a stretch. I'll leave it up to them. Rockhead126 (talk) 18:21, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but I honestly don't think this hook is going to appeal to a broad, international readership. Especially men. Yoninah (talk) 23:09, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
Any chance of coming up with an alt at this point? I think the subject is interesting enough. Rockhead126 (talk) 20:20, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
I quite like ALT1. Adding an image here just in case. Rockhead126 (talk) 23:01, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
Also, ALT1 should probably read:
  • In the process of making up an article for The Sun right now. Rockhead126 (talk) 23:35, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Thank you. I renumbered the alts for clarity. I don't think the image is very good for the main page. We need a reviewer for ALT1a and ALT2. Pinging original reviewer Gerda Arendt. Yoninah (talk) 23:38, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Do you have any knowledge about how nominations for multi-article DYKs work? I don't know if I'd be able to expand the Sun Journal article x5 in time, but Lewiston Daily Sun should be eligible as a creation from a redirect. Rockhead126 (talk) 00:22, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
  • @Rockhead126: Since this nomination is still open, we can certainly accommodate additional qualifying articles. You could make this a triple hook! But the Lewiston Daily Sun article needs to have a minimum of 1500 characters of prose. Let me know where the Sun Journal article is holding. Yoninah (talk) 00:40, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
I suggest we keep things separate, run the nice Valentine-like hook now, and have one about the ownership in the family when the redirect is an article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:38, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Please, Gerda. Running ALT0 would just open up all the old complaints about DYK being trivial and silly. We don't have to do a double hook, just run with ALT1a and Rockhead126 can nominate his other new articles separately. BTW that's a better image at thumbnail size. Yoninah (talk) 18:16, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
ALT1a is really not about this person, and we agreed not to use the first pic anyway. I'd be willing to approve ALT2, if you want that, Rockhead126. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:31, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
  • I'm referring to the second image, of him in 1928, which is cropped from another image in the article. Yoninah (talk) 19:35, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
Not sure. I said I'd approve ALT2 if Rockhead126 wants that. I think the cropped image is not good enough for a lead image for DYK, but possibly better as lead image in the article, only we shouldn't have the same pic twice. To approve ALT1, you'd need someone else. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:32, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Rockhead126 please weigh in here. If you really want ALT1a, we'll get another reviewer. Yoninah (talk) 22:36, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
  • I think ALT1a is the better hook. The Lewiston Daily Sun is just short of 1,500 characters, but I'm about to add to it. Let's make it a double if possible. Rockhead126 (talk) 19:48, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Done with the Daily Sun edits. Rockhead126 (talk) 21:23, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
  • @Rockhead126: I added a "citation needed" tag to the Daily Sun article. Yoninah (talk) 12:46, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
OK, we're ready for a review. The Lewiston Daily Sun has been created from a redirect during the course of this nomination. Here is the updated hook:
  • ALT1b: ... that Maine's Lewiston Daily Sun and its successor, the Sun Journal, were owned by the same family—Louis B. Costello, his son, and grandson—for more than 70 years?
  • Whether or not the image runs is the promoter's decision. Gerda, do you want to do this review, or should we ask someone else? Thank you, Yoninah (talk) 13:50, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
I can do it later today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:14, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
reviewing the paper: solid article on good sources, no copyvio obvious. Overall: I find the hook a bit not too exciting, but it's approved if you wish. We have great images, so I recommend not to use this blurred crop. If you change your mind and want ALT2 and a separate hook for the paper, please let me now. I also think we don't need to teach readers in a hook that father, son and grandson belong to one family ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:50, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Gerda, thanks for the review. You're right; we have too many person images at present, so I'm removing all the images in this nomination. Yoninah (talk) 17:58, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Thanks from me, too, Gerda, and thanks, Yoninah, for your contributions as well. I wasn't able to expand Sun Journal x5, but I think I still improved it substantially. I'm proud to get these articles some exposure. Rockhead126 (talk) 18:37, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
