Henry Lansdell

edit

Henry Lansdell in dress by foreign host

  • ... that Henry Lansdell (pictured) distributed multi-lingual religious tracts and bibles in hospitals and prisons in Siberia and central Asia?

Created by Philg88 (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 12:40, 14 August 2014 (UTC).

  • Long enough, new enough, neutral. QPQ not required. AGF on the sources for all the normal copyvio stuff. Picture is fantastic, though it loses a bit of punch at this size as his hippy camouflage trousers can't be seen. Hook is fine and cited but I think his desert journey is more exciting:
ALT1 ... that Henry Lansdell (pictured) made probably the first journey by any Englishman "across deserts abominable" from Hotan to Yarkand?
Ready with either hook (and use the picture or I will batter you; not with a stick but with a light tempura) Belle (talk) 13:40, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
Ive tweaked the pic to avoid admin tempura - (could we nominate?) Yes? bellissimo! Victuallers (talk) 20:43, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Sorry, @Belle:, you can't approve your own hook per Rule H2. New reviewer needed for ALT1. Yoninah (talk) 20:33, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Yoninah, I'm not approving my own hook as the prep builder can choose. Been doing it this way for months after discussion at DYK talk. Belle (talk) 23:37, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
  • I missed that discussion. That means the prep builder has to do all the checking on the article, rather than let the reviewer take care of it. Yoninah (talk) 23:58, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
  • No, they only have to check the ALT hook is correct if they want to choose it. The ALT hook doesn't invalidate any of the rest of the review or the original hook. Belle (talk) 00:04, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Belle, even so, the promoter would have to approve the hook and promote it, which is not how things are supposed to happen. Basically, you said you were going to do it that way back then, but I don't recall any consensus that this was the right way to do things, or that H2 should change. (If I didn't say I opposed it then, I apologize; I certainly meant to.) At this point, a promoter can promote the original hook, but not your ALT1. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:22, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
  • I may have a language problem but believe that a promoter can at the moment do nothing because no symbol shows that the original hook is approved. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:07, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Effort required from somebody else to approve ALT1, so duller original hook approved (prep-builder and subsequent prep checkers, don't forget to change the hook so it bears no resemblance to the approved hook by the time it reaches the main page). Belle (talk) 08:00, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
