Freies Deutsches Hochstift

  • ... that the Freies Deutsches Hochstift acquired Goethe's birthplace in 1863, but did not fully restore it until 1926?
    • Reviewed: exempt, fourth nomination
    • Comment: The source was the corresponding German article, which I translated and found in line citations for.

  • Alt0a: ... that the Freies Deutsches Hochstift association acquired Goethe's birthplace in Frankfurt am Main in 1863, but did not fully restore it until 1926? Source: "In 1863 ... Otto Volger acquired it to make "Goethe's father's house" the seat of his recently founded Free German Foundation for Science, Arts and General Education." "However, since the areas of the foundation (library, collection) were only removed to an extension in 1897, the house could only be admired in its invented "original state" of the period after 1755 again from 1926." translated from Architektonische Konzepte der Rekonstruktion (Alexander Stumm, 2017) page 162. Interesting history, on fine sources, no copyvio obvious. - Thank you for filling the red link! In the hook I think you have to say "organisation" or whatever to provide help as to who "acquired". I guess mentioning Frankfurt would also help, - we can't assume people know where Goethe was born. - As discussed before, what used to be the Goethe House and Museum is now the larger Deutsches Romantik-Museum, with Goethe House meaning strictly the building. Please adjust. I'd also prefer to show a recent picture, with that museum, not this historic one. If there isn't one on the commons, I can upload one, but it will take a few days as I'll travel possibly without connection. To match the hook, you may want to add a really old image. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:19, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt thank you for the suggestions on the hook, I will try to tweak it. I will also look for better pictures, are you suggesting adding one to the nomination? I don't think there is a picture of Goethe House and the Romantik-Museum together on Commons, I wonder if it might be difficult to get the whole picture from street level. As discussed on the RM talk page, can you find a published source that the Goethe House is now part of the Romantik-Museum? I will be quite happy to be proved wrong. You'll need patience until Tuesday - on vacation with possibly no connection. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:10, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I have tweaked the hook as you suggested. Did you manage to get a better picture? TSventon (talk) 19:37, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for patience. I uploaded a better pic, added to the Romantik-Museum, but you also found a better one, so we can leave it as is. I prefer ALT0a, explaining the German a bit. What do you think of an infobox. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:11, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you Gerda Arendt, my comments are
  • I agree with your suggestions on the hook and have struck the original now you are happy with the updated version
  • As I asked previously, can you find a published source that the Goethe House is now part of the Romantik-Museum?
  • I haven't changed the picture as it shows the Goethe House as rebuilt by the Hochstift in 1951, plus part of the later extension. I don't know much about photographs, so I am open to advice on a better image.
  • I have added a basic infobox, which means there is space for an image of the Romantik-Museum TSventon (talk) 08:44, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. Formerly the Hochstift cared for Goethe Haus und Museum. Now it cares for Goethe-Haus und Deutsches Romantik-Museum, "Museum" expanded to "Deutsches Tomantik-Museum. I don't know how to say that in English. It was two things combined, and it is two things combined, but to use the full long name all the time is awkward. There are sources enough saying that the combined thing has one access entrance and one ticket. After days away including a funeral, this is low on my to-do-list, as you will hopefully understand. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:04, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
