... that Adam Mickiewicz based his description of a traditional banquet in Pan Tadeusz, the Polish national epic, on Compendium ferculorum, the nation's oldest cookbook?
Polish quote: "Mickiewicz wykorzystał w poemacie wiele wskazań i pomysłów Czernieckiego, między innymi właśnie według przepisów zamieszczonych w Compendium ferculorum przygotowywana była przez Wojskiego staropolska uczta w Soplicowie dla generałów Dąbrowskiego, Kniaziewicza i innych."
My translation: "Mickiewicz used in the poem many of Czerniecki's instructions and ideas; it was according to the recipes found in Compendium ferculorum that the Tribune prepared the Old Polish banquet at Soplicowo for Generals Dąbrowski, Kniaziewicz and others."

My translation: "... today we present to the Readers the text of the oldest printed cookbook published in Kraków in 1682."

Spectacular article, on plenty of decent-looking sources, which I have to accept AGF as all Polish. - Hook: if you want to propagate the poet and his epic, it's fine, but if you want to attract to the dishes, perhaps:- ALT1: ... that Compendium ferculorum, albo Zebranie potraw, the oldest cookbook in Polish, inspired the description of a traditional banquet in the Polish national epic (illustration pictured)? - You're right, Gerda, the hook should put more emphasis on the cookbook. I like yours better, but I think we might also squeeze in its author's name. As for the image, the title page of the cookbook would be rather bland, but we could use an illustration of the banquet.
