New article, long enough, meets 7-day requirement. The text is neutral POV and has in-line citations. I have not completed review of sources for of close paraphrasing, copy vios and plagiarism. I have not yet searched for a QPQ. None is indicated, and possibly none is required. Although the hook seems to meet the review criteria, I did not find it compelling. There are no images, which I think poses a problem. Specifically, how does one visualize how the lighthouse relates to some European castle without a picture? Also, a map showing the location would be useful to readers unfamiliar with the area. Bruin2 (talk) 05:32, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
The sentence in the opening paragraph, In the early days of maritime travel, the lighthouse of Cape Santiago safely guided international shipping vessels crossing the Verde Island Passage, San Bernardino Strait and Manila Bay., was taken verbatim from Reference 3 without quotation marks or a direct citation. I don't recommend passing this DYK in its present state. While I saw no other violations, the same reference has information that I think could lead to more interesting hooks. I have deleted the copyvio sentence, but I notice some other details that are close paraphrasing from that source. I'm also troubled by the fact that the most recent source here is from 2007, so the article is clearly not current (despite its use of "currently"; the PCGA was planning to restore the lighthouse in time for the town's centennial in 2011, three years ago now. Since this is one of three articles by RioHondo that Shhhhwwww!! nominated without informing RH that this was being done, I'm going to ping RH's talk page to see whether there's any interest in pursuing this nomination.
