Adrienne Bolland edit

Adrienne Bolland ca. 1921

  • ... that Adrienne Bolland (pictured), the first woman to fly across the Andes, became a pilot to pay off her gambling debts?
  • ALT1:... that when Adrienne Bolland (pictured) made the first flight across the Andes by a woman, she had only 40 hours of flight experience?
  • ALT2:... that a medium relayed counterintuitive advice that helped Adrienne Bolland (pictured) become the first woman to fly across the Andes?
  • Reviewed: India and state terrorism
  • Comment: This expansion was started at Wikimania during "10 Women in 10 minutes'; the other two nominated editors made valuable contributions, not just online, as it was being started.

interesting article, fun reading, well sourced. I like ALT1 best but suggest to keep it simpler
ALT3:... that French pilot Adrienne Bolland (pictured) was the first woman to fly across the Andes, after only 40 hours of flight experience? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:44, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
Good, but I thought one of the rules was that the highlighted fact has to be one that wasn't in the article pre-expansion, which is not the case here. Daniel Case (talk) 03:18, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
I was not aware of that rule, didn't know the article so well to tell what was added when, also ALT 3 is just rewording ALT1. I would be ready to make an exception of that rule because I think if we present a person, it should be the most interesting fact about the person, regardless of when that fact was added, typically the most interesting fact would be added first. But let's discuss it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:28, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't believe there is such a rule. I've checked WP:DYK, WP:DYKSG, and WP:Did you know/Onepage, and there's no sign of any requirement in the many hook rules on those pages that the hook fact must come from the expanded material, merely that the fact must have an inline citation from a reliable source. Unless Daniel can find said requirement somewhere, it shouldn't be an issue (and would, as you note, knock out Daniel's ALT1 as well, if it had appeared in the pre-expansion article). ALT3, - if we find such a rule we change it because it doesn't make sense ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:15, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
