{{austroboss}} is a template for building tables of Austrian government ministers and other office holders quickly and with few keystrokes.

Usage

edit

Articles on ministries

edit

Simple example from the Ministry of Civil Service:

<table class="wikitable">
{{austroposse|e=Ministry of Civil Service and Sports|g=Bundesministerium für öffentlichen Dienst und Sport}}
{{austroboss|cv=Kurz I|nv=Heinz-Christian Strache|pv=FPÖ|dv=January 1, 2018}}
</table>
Ministry of Civil Service and Sports
Bundesministerium für öffentlichen Dienst und Sport
Cabinet:Minister:Party:Date appointed:
Kurz IHeinz-Christian Strache FPÖJanuary 1, 2018

As you can see, the template will automatically

  • link to the article on the cabinet;
  • show the party symbol in the correct party color and make it link to the party article;
  • link to the article on the office holder.

For every parameter denoting a value there is an optional companion parameter specifying a rowspan number for the table cell in question. Names of value parameters end in v; names of rowspan parameters end in r. What are the rowspan parameters good for? Look at this example from the Ministry of Education:

<table class="wikitable">
{{austroposse|e=State Secretariat of Popular Enlightenment and Education|g=Staatsamt für Volksaufklärung, für Unterricht und Erziehung und für Kultusangelegenheiten|a=Secretary}}
{{austroboss|cv=Renner IV|nv=Ernst Fischer (writer){{!}}Ernst Fischer|pv=KP|dv=April 27, 1945}}
{{austroposse|e=Ministry of Education|g=Bundesministerium für Unterricht|a=Minister}}
{{austroboss|cv=Figl I|nr=2|nv=Felix Hurdes|pr=2|pv=VP|dv=December 20,1945}}
{{austroboss|cv=Figl II|dv=November 8, 1949}}
</table>
State Secretariat of Popular Enlightenment and Education
Staatsamt für Volksaufklärung, für Unterricht und Erziehung und für Kultusangelegenheiten
Cabinet:Secretary:Party:Date appointed:
RennerErnst Fischer KPÖApril 27, 1945
Ministry of Education
Bundesministerium für Unterricht
Cabinet:Minister:Party:Date appointed:
Figl IFelix Hurdes ÖVPDecember 20,1945
Figl IINovember 8, 1949

Mr Hurdes was minister in two consecutive cabinets. Plenty of people are ministers in two or more consecutive cabinets. Christian Broda was appointed Minister of Justice five consecutive times, took a short break, and then served for another four consecutive terms. Heinrich Drimmel was Minister of Education six times in a row. Hans Schüff and Anton Proksch both lead Ministries for seven consecutive terms. Printing someone's name and party symbol on seven consecutive table rows would neither look nice nor make the table easier to read. So therefore rowspans.

Formal documentation

edit

Each invocation of the template creates one table row, usually containing four cells.

Technically, no parameters are required, but a row without either a nv or a dv will not render.

Field name Prerequisite Description Example Result
cv none
  • Cabinet symbol
  • One of Renner I, Renner II, Renner III, Mayr I, ... Kern, Kern I, Kern II
  • Template supports Renner as a synonym for Renner IV, just in case.
  • Automatically links to the encyclopedia article on the cabinet (if we have one) or to the article on the chancellor (if not). Kern for example links to Kern government but Klaus II links to Josef Klaus.
Klaus II Klaus II
cr cv
  • rowspan value for the cv cell
tv none
  • Department the office holder formally belongs to.
  • Chancellery for chancellors, vice chancellors, and chancellery ministers.
  • The name of the relevant ministry or state secretariat otherwise.
tl tv
  • Name of article that the tv value should be a link to.
tr tv
  • rowspan value for the cv cell
ov none
  • Name of office, e.g. chancellor, vice chancellor, minister, or state secretary.
  • chancellor and vice chancellor automatically link to the relevant articles.
  • The comparison is case-insensitive but case-preserving
Chancellor Chancellor

Alois Mock Alois Mock
nr nv
  • rowspan value for the nv cell
n nv

  • Automatically links to the relevant article.
  • The Ö is always optional.
  • none links to independent politician.
