Article is looking good. If there are any images that could be uploaded that would help the appearance of the article greatly. There are a lot of other items in your article that you could link to on Wikipedia. If there is any information on his later life that would be helpful to understanding the role ex-Californio politicians played in the new state, if at all. Glad you were able to create a page for Ygnacio separate from Rancho San Jose.

Ygnacio Palomares Peer Review

Good work, Jose. The article section you have contributed to offers a detailed and objective view of the life and contributions of Palomares. Your sources are solid and appear reputable. I do, however, have a few suggestions to bolster up your person. Conversely, I do know that these individuals we are focusing on are rather obscure in the historical record and reliable sources can be troublesome to mine. What you have found may be all that is presently available, so believe me when I say I understand.

1. Do you think Ygnacio Palomares merits his own Wikipedia entry as opposed to a section in a larger article? You may want to consider creating one.

2. Perhaps expand on his role and doings during the Nicholas Fink trial.

3. You might want to dedicate a section outlining his rise in Southern California politics.

4. Discuss his contributions and details about the apprehension of the Alvitre brothers and the subsequent outcome.

5. What position did he serve during the Mexican American War? The article states that he was a militia captain from 1844-1845 but does not detail his whereabouts from 1846 until he became governor in 1848. Did he do anything significant during the conflict?

6. What were the details of his passing? Natural causes/human causes?

7. Is he interred at Spadra Cemetary? (interesting place to visit right near campus)

8. Are there any portrayals of Palomares in media or literature?

9. Are there any monuments or places named after him?

Overall, I enjoyed the article section and appreciated the inclusion of his family and genealogical history as well as his activities during the mixing of Mexican and American sovereignty during the mid-19th century.

I think Ygnacio Palomares definitely deserves his own page, so this will be a real contribution ... as you get it a bit further along. You have great details. Go ahead and break the details down into sections as you revise. At the outset, start with his significance (elite Californio family, involved in Mexican California politics as well as Los Angeles politics after statehood), then break down--perhaps in terms of California history (Spain-Mexico-US)? And after that, about the controversies--Fink, Ellington?

As you well know, you'll need to get your sourcing up as well as links to other Wikipedia and external sites, including, of course, the Adobe. Can you make use of their sources on the Palomares family, also the Wikipedia article on Rancho San Jose? I'd offer sourcing suggestions, but I'm not sure what you're referencing here. As you flesh this out, do feel free to offer a bit more context that right now probably feels self-explanatory: what is Alta California? Link for Wikipedia's Californio article. He lived through Mexican independence from Spain, the Mexican-American War, and California's statehood, and was involved in politics through all of this.

- Clarify, were the Palomares *and* Saez families both elite, or just the Palomares? (It's fine to include some details on their lands as well, given how significant their land holdings were and what it demonstrates about the family's elite status, but you can also leave a lot to just linking to the Adobe and Rancho sites.) - Clarify his terms as Juez de Campo - you say 1834 AND IN 1840, which makes it sound like terms, but then he was Juez de Paz in 1841. Was he Juez de Campo 1834-1840.

It seems like there is good material via the Pomona Historical Society, too, including at least one photograph of Palomares. https://www.geni.com/people/Don-Ygnacio-Palomares/6000000026812364745 (following the sources on this) Also: https://lavernemagazine.org/2016/09/family-legacy-lives-on/

There's so much here and you don't have to do all of it. The key here is to make what you *do* post substantive and substantiated (sourced with citations). Raevan2011 (talk) 23:48, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
