Yamato's real name?
editI'm not sure of this, but in reference to the newly-released chapter 317, is Yamato's real name "Tenzou"? round 16:16, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- It would appear so; however, as he's currently operating under the name Yamato, this article should remain titled Yamato as well, unless Kishimoto decides to make him use Tenzō full-time. --Djseifer 18:12, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Story-wise, the name "Yamato" was designated by Tsunade to conceal information to Naruto that he is under supervision of the ANBU itself, as previously stipulated by Tsunade and the Konoha elders that Naruto should be let go as a ninja and not be confined to Konoha premises on the basis of the Demon Fox sealed inside him. --Francis820 06:55, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- He should be called Tenzō in this article though. His codename is more widely used, but so is "Perverted Hermit" when Naruto refers to Jiraiya. What, we gonna make that the name of the article because of some preference? The Wretched 05:40, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Nobody in the series (except for Naruto) calls Jiraiya "Perverted Hermit" do they? Similarly, most characters don't refer to Yamato as Tenzo. So, why go with the name used less often in the series? ~SnapperTo 05:46, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Naruto does. Though that could be a faulty scanlation. No clue, but he called him something like that. But do we name him the Perverted Hermit? No. We name him Jiraiya. Just like we should name this guy Tenzō 'cause his name is Tenzō. But now, we got it screwed up. SomeGuy(numbers) had to fuck with it and revert it back. Now, we got two redirects taking up space, because of some dumbass preference. The Wretched 05:51, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- It's not a preference, it's the most widely known and used name. We don't label Argent by her real name, Toni Monetti. The same prinicipal applies here. Yamato is the most commonly known name and Wikipedia policy requires we use the term of least astonishment. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 05:48, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Then it should be changed. Retarded rule. I'm gonna ask some MOD about that. The Wretched 05:53, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Admin, not mod. Get it straight. Policy isn't going to change because you complain. Yamato is the commonly used name. Deal with it. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 05:55, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- They're the same thing. They're both part of an authority and they both moderate things. Why should I have to refer it the way you want to anyway? And the only reason Tenzō would really want that name is because Naruto's around, and he can't go revealing his identity if he's part of ANBU, right? The Wretched 05:57, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- You seem to be confusing me with the series. I suggest you learn the difference. Tenzo follows orders. He's not allowed to use his real name. He doesn't want Kakashi using it and insists on using it himself. Therefore, we use it here. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 05:59, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- I know the difference: One's an enforcer, the other's a bigger enforcer. Same thing (Lol). Tenzō is his real name. It shouldn't matter that everyone else calls him Yamato. Besides that's what I just said: The only reason he's using it is because of ANBU purposes, and thus must use his fake name. That does not mean that he has legally changed his name. It's Tenzō. The Wretched 06:08, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Argent's real name is Toni Monetti, but we don't call her that, do we? Listen and understand this, because I'm tired of explaining it. We use the name that the character is most commonly known by. He is known by the name Yamato, not Tenzo. The people in the series don't even know his real name. We know the Third Hokage's name is Sarutobi, but we do not title his article with that name because that is not the name he is known by. Have I made this perfectly clear? – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 06:14, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Perfectly. However, that seems to go against the naming of Dozens (Probably Hundreds) of other articles that just don't seem to agree. Especially when refering to pro wrestlers. Glen Jacobs is always refered to as Kane. But do we use Kane? No. Either you're mistaken, or this Encyclopedia is seriously contradictory and screwed up... The Wretched 06:16, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Jay-Z. Look, I can pick out random examples, too. Fictional characters are not like real people. We go by the name they are most know by in the set of media to which they belong. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 06:19, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- That's what I'm saying. Most of this stuff isn't doing that. Again, Kane. Everyone, I mean, everyone, calls him Kane. WWE, ECW, fans, whatever. Yet the title says "Glen Jacobs". Sounds weird to me. The Wretched 06:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- This why Wiki is reliable and unreliable and will never be as good as anything else unless every article in it is an FA. It relies on random people for info. The Wretched 06:32, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Don't diss the medium when you've been rejected. Read Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names). – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 06:29, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- *Sigh* Fine, fine, whatever. But you know, this is why we have redirects: So people can search for something, get directed to the correct page with the correct name, and then that person can use the correct name in the future. Of course, we'll never take that chance, so...whatever. Matter of fact, I'm not editing anymore. Waste of my time. Whether it's in some jackass guideline or not, it gets reverted for some preference. Example: Naruto Episode Names. We should be using Translations, not dubs. Though translations can vary, they're still more accurate, because the U.S. has to screw around and change everyhting anyway. But whatever. You win. Tenzō's name is "Yamato", or "That Guy that can Use Mukoton when Yellow Flash is dead". I don't care anymore. The Wretched 06:39, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Reindent. Still policy to use the common name. People like to end up on the page they were searching for. Also, dubs are more official than translations and the Yellow Flash couldn't use Mokuton jutsu. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 06:44, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Someone should say something about that. One person's word is never enough, however, so that would be pointless. The most official thing you can get is a perfect accurate translation. It's the closest thing you can get without saying it in Japanese (which we can't because Japanese is now considered evil, apparently), and whoever that guy was who was the original Mukoten guy. I can't remember. The Wretched 06:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- People have said things about that. The dubs win out. Holdouts exist, but such is the Wiki. As the Japanese title is the original official, so is the English dubbing companies title the official translated title, regardless of whether or not it exactly matches literal translations. The only reason every jutsu doesn't use English dubs is because far too many don't have one. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 06:52, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, but this Wiki's funeral. Most people who actually know that anime comes from Japan and want to learn more about it, will have the common sense to know that the U.S. meddles in everything, and they'll want to know what the real names are. Keep the retarded dubs, but expect a lot more complaints... The Wretched 19:12, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Stop being so overdramatic. It's not helping your point. Also, for your information, we list the Japanese titles with the English titles, so people will know the original titles. You're just complaining for the sake of it now. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 19:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Okay, on any official document, that the public would have access to, Yamato would be used. Of course, we could something like Tenzo (Yamato), or something like that. --Count Mall 22:05, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- ok let's put it this way you know larry the cable guy that's not his real name thats his stage name yet we still call him larry the cable guy here BECAUSE THATS THE MOST RECOGNIZED NAMElike they said wikipoliscy states we have to use the most widely known name few peopl know yamato is tenzo so we use yamato-JJ15
Japanese Characters
editIs anyone else seeing the Japanese characters replaced by little boxes and black bars? Or am I missing some software on my comp? The Wretched 06:08, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- It's your computer. They display fine. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 06:14, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Refer here for help. ~SnapperTo 06:16, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
regional settings and language lol
This page could need a trim.
editSeriously, this page is about Yamato/Tenzou, whatever you wanna call him, not about how certain plot developing battles are fought (How would that look like on the DBZ page?) so I'll ask you nicely... Could someone, at least, shorten the vs. Sasuke part? Puhleeese? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.208.27.19 (talk) 17:56, 10 December 2006 (UTC).
- I notice that the vs. Sasuke part has been substantually shortened. Thanks, it's much better now, imo. ^^ 217.208.27.4 13:23, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Chakra
editIt says that in order for Yamato to use his wood techniques, he needs to combine water and earth chakra, but i thought ninja were born with only one type of chakra. Can someone please explain this to me?QuietDrive627 21:47, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- During an experiment done by Orochimaru on babies, Yamato got DNA from the First Hokage, who hade the kekkei genkai Mokuton that allowed him to combinde earth and water chakra. The experiment also gave Yamato Firsts controll over Biju deamons.Jacce 15:45, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- i know but i want to know HOW he combines the chakras if he only has one type of chakra to begin with.QuietDrive627 19:10, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- A shinobi may have one natural affinity towards an element, but it is not clear whether or not they are limited to one or even if they must have one. Kakashi, for instance, has an affinity for Lightning, but Sasuke may possibly have two affinities, as may the Third Hokage – we don't know. Shikamaru or Ino may have no affinities. Affinities aren't needed to use an element, however: if you have an affinity for an element, it just means you're rather strong at it. Yamato can use both Suiton (Water) and Doton (Earth) techniques, which isn't that out of the ordinary on its own. He may have affinities for both, which may or may not be really uncommon -- we don't know if he has affinities to both, or even if dual affinities are possible.
- However, Yamato possesses a bloodline limit which lets him combine Suiton and Doton to form Mokuton. This isn't the same as just using a Suiton jutsu and a Doton jutsu simultaneously, nor is it the same as having dual affinities. It actually combines the two natures (not two distinct effects) into something else. He has this bloodline limit by merit of the Shodai's cells.
Picture
editIf Yamato was in Naruto Shippuden episode one, then why doesnt put a picture of him in the anime in the main box?QuietDrive627 19:41, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Because there isn't a good opportunity to get his picture. He is prominently present in the background once, and that isn't nearly adequate enough for an image. ~SnapperTo 22:13, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Getting rid of the template at the top
editWe need to get rid of the template at the top and improve the quality of the article. We should also add some pictures. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coolguy101011 (talk • contribs) 06:35, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- I have removed the template, but added another set of templates to highlight issues with the article. The biggest and most important issue is to demonstrate that Yamato has notability outside of the series itself in reliable sources. I.e. the character is dicussed in critical terms by established reliable sources such as ANN or Mania's reviews. Being in an official databook does not fulfill this requirement. Blogs, forums and fansites can not be used for this. Until such notability is demonstarted, this page will be a potential target for being merged back to the main character list. In the meantime I have performed some cleanup based on what should and should not be in the article. Dandy Sephy (talk) 06:48, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
