1st Vice Chairman of the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council (AFPRC) is Sanna Bairo Sabally (not FD Sabali as written by Wikipedia) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 102.140.129.74 (talk) 22:10, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Expansion edit

I have added the tag to this page for the following reasons: 1. He is the president of a country. 2. He is featured on the front page.

I am going to delete the comment about the supposed evidence for his AIDS cure to work, since there is no source for that affirmation, instead, quite the opposite. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.248.59.166 (talk) 02:57, 5 November 2007 (UTC) Yeah, and were the hell is the source for the opposite? Show me. I'll find the source, some long document and then I'll add it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.226.7.1 (talk) 01:49, 22 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dear Anon, the amount of information is in proportion to that of the other chapters. Wikipedia is a "work in progress" and extensions are usually welcome. gidonb (talk) 05:10, 22 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Youngest World Leader edit

I've heard it said that when Jammeh rose to power at age 29, he became the world's youngest political leader - and still may well be the youngest. I think if true it would be a notable point of interest for inclusion, but I can't find any source for it. Anyone know any better? Annatto (talk) 16:19, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Homophobia edit

The Category:Homophobia is for "individuals that are particularly noted" for their homophobia, not people that have made homophobic remarks. This man is notable because he is the president of The Gambia, not because of his remarks. Please don't add him back to the category. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 14:02, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Have you actually read the remarks? I'd say that a President of a country who threatens to behead homosexuals on national radio is "particularly notable" for his homophobia, not to mention a plethora of sources that are widely available on his homophobia.
I have re-added Category:Homophobia to the article. I am satisfied that Jammeh is noted for his homophobia and fulfills the note at the top of that category. --Tagishsimon (talk) 16:22, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Does such a category exist for lunatics and madmen (or more realistically: Despots/Dictators)? Because, after reading this article, I get the feeling he should be added there. 79.223.169.3 (talk) 07:43, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Here is what this lunatic has to say about Gays:

" “Homosexuality is anti-humanity. I have never seen homosexual chicken, or turkey..0 If you are convicted of homosexuality in this country, there will be no mercy for offenders. We will put you in the female wing of the prison,”

“We want the population to grow. There will be children in this country. Homosexuality is anti-god, anti-human, and anti-civilization. Homosexuals are not welcome in the Gambia. If we catch you, you will regret why you are born.

“I have buffalos from South Africa and Brazil and they never date each other. We are ready to eat grass but we will not compromise on this. Allowing homosexuality means allowing satanic rights. We will not allow gays here." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.7.106.23 (talk) 04:15, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Awards and Honors of a dubious nature edit

So, what's the deal with all these awards? Kentucky colonel, for instance? Should the awards be verified any further? I mean, what the heck is this?

The gentleman has used these awards, and there are sources for it. It seems relevant biographical material to me.46.115.51.106 (talk) 19:18, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Citation misuse edit

I know I'm meant to assume good faith, but there is a pretty blatantly fraudulent use of a citation in the Women's rights section of this article. The second point reads:

According to a 2012 Associated Press article, "Yahya Jammeh...has made progress on issues such as women's rights."

Notice the ellipsis? If you check this Yahoo[1] carried version of the Associated Press article you will see that the context for the quote is "said that while Uganda has made progress on issues such as women's rights", this in an article that also mentions Yahya Jammeh in a completely separate part.

I suggest the whole section is removed, the only remaining point - having a Cabinet post for Women's Affairs - does not by itself show that any progress on Women's rights has been made. This appears to be completely original research.--90.199.141.189 (talk) 16:47, 6 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Completely original" only begins to describe it.--Quisqualis (talk) 01:45, 11 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Training edit

I removed this sentence which had a "citation needed" tag:

He received extensive military training in neighboring Senegal and at United States Army School of the Americas.

I checked his official CV: it makes no such claims, saying only that he was trained on the Military Police Officers Basic Course (MPOBC) at Port McClellan, Alabama. I didn't insert this detail into the text instead. It may be true, but it should be verified in an independent source: a report in Time implies that many awards claimed in that CV are fictional. Biography edit

This is lacking basic biographical information - where was he born etc. Also - what's the stick? 81.187.223.119 (talk) 17:35, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I have deduced that the stick is his "peace pipe".--Quisqualis (talk) 01:47, 11 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I rated the priority of this article as "mid", since he doesn't seem to have affected many people outside of his own, relatively small, country. --Zantastik talk 06:36, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Concession edit

Al Jazeera reports that Jammeh conceded the election. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/12/ghana-akufo-addo-wins-presidential-election-161209172455364.html. Donner60 (talk) 23:38, 9 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Alleged human rights abuses > massacre of migrants edit

I think human rights abuses > massacre of migrants clearly needs to be rewritten, with citations integrated throughout the section, and in a more encyclopaedic tone; I've fixed a couple of the most blatant problems, like grammar issues and Jammeh being referred to as "the man who calls himself the President", but significant issues remain in this section, including the lengthy statement of a Gambian soldier which was pasted into the end of the section without proper formatting or context. Clearly the section should stay, but significant work needs to be done. Thoughts? If someone more qualified than I am in this kind of editing could take a look that would be great. Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).

Not stepped down edit

Many editors keep repeatedly reverting and show he is no longer is the President. However, we need sources for everything. And as far as what sources say, he has refused to step down from his office. Until he does, he cannot be shown as no longer in office. It can be shown as disputed. But as per sources he is still in office. And why doesn't anyone discuss instead of edit-warring?
