Talk:William Opdyke

Notable?

edit

Apparently, this question has been asked before (AfD linked to above): I'm concerned about the subject's notability. He has a few "points" in his favor:

  • He apparently has an h-index of 10, which implies that he's somewhat well-known in his field. (This might be sufficient for tenure at many "research" universities.)
  • His first listed paper alone has nearly 900 citations (which I assume was part of his dissertation).
  • His dissertation is cited as "the first in-depth study of code refactoring as a software engineering technique". (Since it seems natural to re-examine one's work, I would assume that, in the general sense, "code refactoring" has been an aspect of software engineering since the beginning.)

I'm not sure these points are sufficient to show notability. Justin W Smith talk/stalk 19:03, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

It appears he also published under the name "Bill Opdyke": google scholar results. This would likely take his h-index to 11. Justin W Smith talk/stalk 19:13, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
