110 Westminster, mentioned in the final paragraph, has been scrapped (and many of us knew it would never happen anyway), so that should be deleted.

Arcade is gone

The Arcade is gone. I've been there personally but if you editors who aren't from the area want proof of this then go to projo.com There are many stories about this. A recent one is here from May 7, 2009- http://www.projo.com/news/content/PROVIDENCE_MOST_ENDANGERED_05-07-09_OSE9DI2_v18.378c8de.html "PROVIDENCE — The Arcade, the downtown landmark that is credited as America’s first indoor mall, is being threatened, after it was shuttered last year in preparation for a major renovation of the mall’s interior, according to the Providence Preservation Society."

Btw other Projo articles stated that Johnson and Wales left the Arcade last year, which caused huge financial troubles as it was the greatest contributor of rent toward the buildings owners.

The Arcade is going to be renovated. The owners are looking for tenants. It could possibly remain as an indoor mall, but it could also end up being rented out by one company who wants to use the whole building.

I don't have time to dig out the references now, but a specific project to fill the lower floor or floors with shops and the upper ones with "loft" apartments has been announced and may even have received some preliminary approvals. There was a big joint press conference outside the building earlier this spring to announce the project that included the Mayor (Angel Taveras) and the Providence Preservation Society. ¶ The more difficult question is the future of the site right next to The Arcade, where all but the 1950 bank façade was demolished for a speculative mid-decade office/condo high-rise project that was overly ambitious during the boom and collapsed completely after the 2008 building bust. The façade remains, and permission has been granted for a temporary, landscaped parking lot behind it for a couple of years while a viable new building proposal can be assembled. —— Shakescene (talk) 06:09, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
