Article has exceeded template limits

Hi O for Awesome. This page is in Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded, a category that I patrol. This is causing the templates in the section Wellington Phoenix FC results by opposition § Sydney FC and below not to transclude. There are 18 templates that aren't being transcluded. Maybe you can solve this by splitting the article or reducing the number of transclusions somehow. Substituting some, i.e. {{subst:xxx}} might be an option too. I don't understand the rationale for transcluding {{ALeague WP}} 225 times on this page. A simple transclusion of that template just shows a link to the team: Wellington Phoenix

The template expands to:

Why use that when the much simpler:

[[Wellington Phoenix FC|Wellington Phoenix]]

accomplishes the same thing for this application: Wellington Phoenix. Unless I'm missing something? The usage here doesn't seem to be intended to be sortable. Wbm1058 (talk) 16:59, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

The same can be said about:

• {{ALeague AU}} – Adelaide United (29 transclusions)
• {{ALeague BR}} - Brisbane Roar (22 transclusions)
• {{ALeague CCM}} – Central Coast Mariners (28 transclusions)

etc. I suppose all the opposing teams' templates in aggregate add up to about another 225 transclusions total. Wbm1058 (talk) 17:28, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

OK, this is  Fixed for now. Post-expand include size is 2,059,525 bytes (the limit is 2,097,152 bytes). Article should still be split, probably before the next season is added, but now there's some headroom to keep this as-is for a while. – Wbm1058 (talk) 18:53, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you so much for fixing these problems! I hadn't logged in for a long time so did not realise that this had happened! The only reason I had been using the {{ALeague WP}} templates (and similar for other teams) was because any instance of

[[Wellington Phoenix FC|Wellington Phoenix]]

would be repeatedly replaced on any A-League related Wiki page, so I just went along with what appeared to be the standard. Of course, like you said, there is no difference to the end result so whatever helps to reduce the page size is good.

I will get around to finding the best way to split this article up in the next few months (new season won't start until October).
