Table format edit

@Kiwichris: Why change the format? Eddaido (talk) 13:05, 29 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I just thought it would be better to standardize the list along the lines of other comparable local-body offices, but feel free to further modify and add any other relevant information if you so wish. Kiwichris (talk) 02:31, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
So much white space! Why have you removed full names, why have you removed service on the board? I know you specialise in local bodies. I just wondered at what might be the advantages of following the example used there.
Harbour boards are no longer important or significant within the community but the Wellington Harbour Board would have been vastly more important to any businessman in the lower North Island or upper South Island including Wellington then the mayor of Wellington, or Lower Hutt or any small part of Auckland.
A century ago they controlled / facilitated every entry and exit of the country - you couldn't move without using their facilities. Mass air travel and air cargo not to mention more efficient ways of getting their jobs done (containers etc) make them — like postal services and suburban roads, they're there, we still use them but only a few find a reason to care about them.
You decline to revert your edit? Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 02:50, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't think their overall service on the board is relevant to their time as chair which is why I removed that part and I think using full names is just overkill, the latter I cede is subjective though. If you want to revert then I won't stop you. Kiwichris (talk) 03:12, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I think their overall service is important, contributes to their success or otherwise (and it happened, look for 1 or 2 year terms) as chairman. It was not a city council but rather a group of businessmen looking after their own (until the 1960s particularly vital to the nation) — often competing — business interests. Full names is how you will have found them — there is also the matter of consistency as your list stands at present? Eddaido (talk) 22:43, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Do we need the table? edit

I'm not familiar with how much detail similar articles have - do we need the table of chairmen at all? Wainuiomartian (talk) 22:24, 18 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's absolutely standard. The position held high status. Schwede66 22:33, 18 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
