Clarification of his facial reconstruction
editLooking at the photographs (http://www.projectfacade.com/index.php?/case_studies_gallery/image_full_uk_navy/299/) he was clearly treated with tube pedicle flaps not skin grafts. This was a novel way of transplanting skin which is very different to skin grating. This technique has been superseded by micro-vascular free tissue transplantation and is now only used very rarely (such as ear helical rim reconstruction). I suspect the vast majority of current plastic surgery trainees have never seen a tube pedicle flap used in reconstruction. Doctorwithwound (talk) 20:25, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
