Question
editCorrect me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a tautology to state that a volcanic rock is igneous? Igneous is assumed in the appelation "volcanic". I don't know who thought it was neccessary to classify volcanic rocks as this, but its particularly redundant and I think it is sufficient to just call it "volcanic rock". After all, it's not like you get sedimentary volcanic rocks.
(and yes, I am aware you can get epiclastic rocks which are sediments of volcanic composition and hence, to a particularly unimaginative point of view, are "sedimentary volcanic rocks", but to me, they are volcanogenic sediments).
edit: this stems from the link here on the lava page which is igneous volcanic rock

Agreed, if you've called it volcanic you've already implied that it is igneous. For the benefit of anyone else reading, the converse is not true; some igneous rocks are not volcanic, but cool deep in the crust (see subvolcanic rock). To be fair, it does not look as if the redirect is linked to from anywhere except here, so it's probably for the benefit of the confused who do not know that it's redundant. Structure
editI'm not sure how other maintainers feel about this... but I reorganized the page in a way that should be more accessible and easier to read categorically. Snoop0x7b 05:49, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Geography
editi believe volcanic can not be found in the northern and southern states —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.34.120.238 (talk) 22:23, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
The Cascade volcanic arc (I'm assuming that you are talking about the United States) stretches north-south through the continental US, volcanoes all down the west side. So I'm not sure exactly what you mean. What states are you talking about? HLHJ (talk) 20:51, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
Lava rock construction
editI'd like to see this article cover the use of "lava rock" as a construction material. As a notable example:
- Posey–Ploss, Marian (8 Sep 1983). "National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Lava Rock Structures in South Central Idaho TR". National Register of Historic Places. Washington, D.C., USA: National Park Service. Retrieved 15 Feb 2020.
Anyone know if this is covered elsewhere? Have a suggestion for including it here? Willing to BOLDLY edit it into this article? MrBill3 (talk) 12:52, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
