Serious flaws

edit

This is one of those pages that gives wikipedia a bad name. Bad writing, questionable claims, no discussion.

I will revise it, but others should contribute.Michaplot (talk) 16:27, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Chi, magic and Pseudo-Science

edit

We all know that it is a combination of the faerie leprechauns and balanced Chi that makes fluid travel up the plant. This is a ridiculous hypothesis and needs reproducible proof to be called a theory. Note a theory is a proved hypothesis and this is not. Adding... Plant cells only have microscopic pumps (like all cells) that move ions nutrients and wast into and out of the cell. This is called respiration but the cell walls of plant cells are rigid. Therefore the plant does not breathe in the macroscopic sense like an animal. An action that would be immediately visible under a simple microscope. Transpirational pull is much more sensible claim the electrostatic attraction between polar molecules exist in a distributed manor between the molecules of a plant stem overcoming gravity. This explains the existence of tall trees. Here is a simple experiment that displays the action of water's cohesion to other polar molecules. Go wash your hands with soap. The soap should remove any non-polar molecules of oil and grease that may be present leaving only polar molecules on the hand's surface. Rinse the hand clean. Before drying hold the hand if the air in front of you and observe the bottom side. Notice only large drops of water where few of the molecules have direct contact with the polar skin molecules detach and fall due to gravity. The film that remains is very thick by plant capillary standards. Electrostatic forces are stronger than Gravitational forces on short scales.12.106.237.2 (talk) 13:47, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have removed that section, as it is unencyclopedic and unsourced. A dullard (talk) 19:00, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
