I have been accused of being a logical positivist, but in fact I am an anti-reductionist, acedia-wielding, science-loving but lexically-leaning, concinnity-seeking, progressive nihilist-cum-optimist (though we all--me especially--appear to be totally fucked), insomniac, botanist, atheist.

I am currently Associate Professor and Chair of Biological Sciences at Mt. San Jacinto College in San Jacinto, CA. I also serve as the co-Editor of the MERLOT Biology board.

My graduate research (M.S. and Ph.D.) was conducted at the University of California, Davis, focusing on plant phylogenetics. I also hold an M.S. in environmental studies from Lesley University through the Audubon Expedition Institute. My high school was Friends Select School in Philadelphia.

My areas of fascination include plants, systematics, ethnobotany, evolution, the history of science, and science education.

My name is michael plotkin.
