Advertising edit

I've just pulled a bit of promotional material from this article. We don't actually care if someone filed a patent application; it's not important to anyone except potential investors in the business. Similarly, we don't provide in-text links to business' websites. Readers can ask their favorite web search engine for more information about the company. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:00, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Patents are important to the proper credit to the true inventor of the invention, not for advertising, so that readers understand the developmental history of the technology. So I put the patent information back in, corrected it for accuracy, and expanded it for completeness. The information you deleted actually credited two individuals who obtained "their" invention from another.User: Burdlaw —Preceding undated comment added 18:34, 27 October 2010 (UTC).Reply

Neutrality edit

only presents the timeline according to Lamson. Many many philosophers and psychologists were studying this topic in the early 90s. Perhaps a merge with the related page is the easiest way to solve this, but the target article deals more broadly with all therapeutic uses. VRT/VRIT/VRET is specifically related to mental and behavioral health. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Almtm (talkcontribs) 20:17, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

presents documented timeline of Lamson and others, such as North, Rizzo, Hodges, Rothbaum, etc. various edits deleted such so it will be reinserted for neutrality. Merger with the "target article" is unclear, as which is supposed to the be "target article" is not specified. Was this supposed to mean'Simulation therapy? If so, merger has occurred, thus apparently resolving the lack of neutrality, so that tag is removed. If "target article" means some other article or it neutrality still suspect, please retag as such and explain below here.Burdlaw (talk) 01:23, 2 May 2012 (UTC)burdlawReply

The alleged "multiple issues" do not really exist" edit

"It relies on references to primary sources or sources affiliated with the subject, rather than references from independent authors and third-party publications. Tagged since April 2012." Comment: not true, it appears to rely primarily on independent sources, such as journals, patents, and books. Primary sources are used primarily for historical purposes to prove dates, not content. "It may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Tagged since April 2012." Comment: true of nearly all Wikipedia articles, but this one less than most. "It may require copy editing for grammar, style, cohesion, tone, or spelling. Tagged since April 2012." Comment: don't see or find more than just a couple of grammar, style, spelling or punctuation errors. "Its neutrality is disputed. Tagged since March 2012." Comment: this article has been extensively edited to preserve neutrality through many, many edits. "It may need to be wikified to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Tagged since April 2012" Comment: actually the article appears of high quality. It appears the commenter making these "multiple issues" allegations is the one who is biased.Burdlaw (talk) 00:30, 2 May 2012 (UTC)burdlawReply

Evaluation edit

I think that this is a very good article in terms of the description and how VRT is used in various methods. There are also a lot of examples of studies and evidence that support the article. But I think there are some parts that can be fixed. I feel that it would be better to combine some of the sections that talk about similar subjects like Continued development and Current applications, and Efficacy and Treatment for lesions. Other than that, I really liked the article and how it also addresses the concerns of using VRT. I think this is a good article to take a look at for more info: http://psychiatry.duke.edu/divisions/general-psychiatry/virtual-reality-therapy-phobias — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.174.134.249 (talk) 06:57, 9 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Some information missing, a little biased edit

I think this is a good start for the article, but it could use a lot of improvement. One of the biggest omissions is the use of Virtual Reality in physical and occupational therapy. While the article contains a great deal on treating mental disorders, it never even mentions improving occupational skills in people with autism, or helping stroke patients regain balance and use of limbs. There is ample literature on physical and occupational VR therapy to include them in this article, and maybe even to spawn separate articles.

The information currently included in the article seems to be a little biased towards virtual reality therapy being an effective form of treatment. For example, take this sentence in the “Description” section: “VRT has great promise since it historically produces a "cure" about 90% of the time at about half the cost of traditional cognitive behavior therapy authority…” The information for this statement is cited as coming from two articles about PTSD treatment, which only represents of a portion of virtual reality therapy. Even in the “Concerns” section, there is no mention of studies that have shown VR therapy to be less or equally as effective as conventional therapy.

There is also a lot of information missing citation. Lastly, the “Description” section includes a lot of specific information on PTSD treatment and exposure therapy. I think it should take a broader approach, discussing all types of strategies used and ailments treated.

Planned Edits edit

Hello,

I'm planning on making some changes to this article including information about VR in physical and occupational therapy, some examples of studies that show that VR is not effective, and changing the Description section to be more general. Here are some sources I'm planning on referencing:

General Rewrites of Co edit

I recently removed some unsupported information in the concerns section. The information was unsupported and really the opinions of the editor. However, this entire section needs to be rewritten. The references are 14 years old and much research has occurred since then that negates the concerns listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Telemachus85 (talkcontribs) 16:34, 20 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Merger Discussion edit

Request received to merge articles: Virtual rehabilitation into Virtual reality therapy; dated: June 2019. Proposer's Rationale: Source article covers the same concepts in much less detail. Source article is inactive. I'm fairly new to WP and would like to get input from other editors before making this change. Discuss here. Rowsswag (talk) 17:52, 18 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I would say go for it. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 11:16, 5 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Share the Love: The article did well in helping educate readers on the different perspectives of VR Therapy and techniques that can be used. I think that author could a little more information that could further their article for teaching purposes. I think I liked how the article was written and all the sections and thoughts were organized.

Virtual Reality therapy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_reality_therapy Follow their lead: I felt satisfied with how the relevance of the article explained what the purpose was. It did refelct5 the most important information. It gave a little more information on therapeutic targets. Clear structure: Sections were organized into sections that explained how VR is used in therapy. Balancing act: The length of the sections gave adequate information as to what they were trying to inform on the subject and what its purpose was. No conclusions were drawn due to neutral representation of what VR can be used for in different settings.

Neutral Content: The perspective was entirely informational and scientific. No negative associations or set of unneutrally words or phrases. No claims were made. More focused on positive teaching information. Reliable sources: All information was sourced. No set of statements that were attributed to one of two sources. No sense of unsourced statements. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MiguelG16 (talkcontribs) 05:53, 21 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
