Literal translation "valli"="valleys" is wrong in this context. "Valli" is meaning "fish basins" here, similar to the "valli da pesce" in the Venetian lagoon.

Of course you are right; that is why "Valleys of Comacchio" is (or was!) placed in inverted commas. However, the use of this mistranslation in English is well attested and goes back to at least 1756 (google books), so it definitely needs to be included in the article. I suggest that it be restored in the first sentence, but that we change "valleys" to "valli" throughout the rest of the article. Thoughts?
