Accusation of racism for correcting students' spelling and grammar

edit

I added the following to the article:

In November 2013, students accused Rust of racism after he corrected their spelling and grammar.[1][2] Approximately 25 education majors staged a sit-in in Rust's classroom.[3]

This piece of information needs at least some explanation and contextualization!!! From what you wrote it seems like it was accused of racism because he was doing his job, not even mentioning his issues with African-American students and what sort of grammar and spelling he was correcting!!! The situation is VERY different. Read and be honest when you share knowledge or information publicly. Start from this for instance http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2013/11/25/ucla-grad-students-stage-sit-during-class-protest-what-they-see-racially-hostile#ixzz2lhMma4UB -mel

I looked up the story by accident, followed the link to -wp and while those links do represent part of the debate there seem to be other views on this topic, who think the accusations are the result of misunderstanding and misrepresenting the intentions of this professor. So I have to add 2 more articles showing opposing fews to keep this exchange balanced. thx -g
