Rewrote stub with links, and more refs to add - this is an important subject in the history of the UK home front in WW2 and in UK design. Ghits: c650, incl some substantial sources.HeartofaDog 10:23, 5 December 2006 (UTC) Refactored HeartofaDog 02:22, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Any modern-day parallels? edit

I was thinking that some modern-day furniture outlets - such as Ikea, for example - might be considered makers of modern 'utility furniture'.

OK, it's not entirely simple, boxy stuff, but a lot of Ikea and similar stores' furniture is fairly un-ornamented.

Note: this is not an ad for Ikea, I'm just using them as an example. :-)
