Anachronism?

edit

"In 1972, Upper Iowa launched an external degree program that included Independent Study and Online Programs." 'Online' is defined by MW online as " connected to, served by, or available through a system and especially a computer or telecommunications system (such as the Internet)," and I think the general understanding of the word outside of certain computer contexts is specifically the Internet, which was not generally available to private colleges in 1972. The anachronism caught my eye as well. Perhaps "Distance Learning"is what was meant? While distance learning in the form correspondence courses, televised courses, et. al., was popular in the 1970s, "online" learning did not yet exist. See, "Online Learning in Higher Education." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8805:0:F:74B1:EBC4:7244:66A4 (talk) 21:48, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
