Rail Trail?! edit

Calling this bike path a Rail Trail is confusing and misleading. The usual meaning of Rail Trail is a trail built on a disused railway line, not following an active one. I would have changed this in the article myself, but it seems someone has been using this term all over the place, so it would need quite a few edits. I've lived in Brunswick & Coburg for over 20 years and use the path constantly but I've never heard anyone call it a rail trail. ☸ Moilleadóir 00:31, 8 August 2007 (UTC) Reply

I agree. The article was originally called Upfield Bike Path, as that is it's generally used name by residents, Moreland Council, Bicycle Victoria, and listed in the Bike Paths books. This article should not have been renamed, as it appears to have been done on a whim based upon it following the Upfield rail line. I am moving it back to Upfield Bike Path, which is its generally recognised name.--Takver (talk) 06:26, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Further: City of Moreland Council, who is the local government responsible for the path, calls it Upfield Bike Path here, while Moreland BUG also refers to the Upfield Bike Path here. Vicroads knows it as Upfield Bike Path here as does the Department of Infrastructure here. If you do a google search for Upfield Rail Trail at domains of gov.au it comes up blank, while many references are found for Upfield Bike Path. There was one reference to Upfield Rail Trail on the Bicycle Victoria site but I believe this is an aberration and is wrong. It is a rail trail (note lower case), in that it follows the railway line, but it's name is not Upfield Rail Trail and it is not known locally as such (speaking as a local and regular user of this path). --Takver (talk) 09:47, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
