Talk:United Arab Emirates at the 2008 Summer Olympics

Detail edit

This article says that Latifa Al Maktoum is the daughter of Sheikh Mohamed Al Maktoum. Given that her full name is Latifa bint Ahmed Al Maktoum (i.e., daughter of Ahmed), that seems doubtful. She is more likely to be the daughter of shooter Ahmed Al Maktoum. Aridd (talk) 22:45, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Background
  • It has never participated in a Winter Olympic Games. — Perhaps "As of 2020, it has never..."
  • Had the UAE ever won a medal at the Olympics before 2008? Have they since?
  • All the athletes were promised monetary awards of $272,000 should they have won a gold medal. — Anything for silver/bronze?
Athletics
Equestrian
  • Before the Games, she said, "I was under tremendous pressure in the first two rounds... — The first two rounds of what event?
Judo
  • at these Games — Meaning Beijing, or meaning the Olympics?
  • a wild card invitation from the Tripartite Commission — What's the Tripartite Commission, and is it worth a red link? How did the wild cards work?

Sailing

  • from the Arab World — "from an Arab country"?
  • Why is the fourth-round "43" struck out in the table?

Shooting

  • How did the quota spots work?
  • a four-way shoot-out — Was this required because only the top seven were to advance?
    • The top six were allowed to advance to the final MWright96 (talk) 10:11, 20 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
      • So he tied for sixth; lost the shoot-out; and ended up placing seventh? From the way it is worded ("he took part in the qualifying round of the men's double trap, placing seventh... Ahmad Al-Makotum subsequently lost a four-way shoot-out"). If he indeed tied for sixth, perhaps something like "he took part in the qualifying round of the men's double trap, tying for sixth... Ahmad Al-Makotum subsequently lost a four-way shoot-out... Ultimately he was ranked seventh." --Usernameunique (talk) 17:33, 22 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Saeed Al Maktoum — Any relation to Ahmad Al Maktoum? Looks like they're cousins.
Swimming
  • after being granted a universality place from the world governing body of swimming — How did universality places work?

Taekwondo

  • Shaikka Maitha Al Maktoum — Any relation to the shooters?
