Temples in Udupi
editAs a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Temples in udipi, I inserted the text at Temples in udipi in this article. Please edit it without mercy. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 02:30, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Derivation of Name 'UDUPI'
editI have heard from elders when I was a kid that actually the name 'Udupi' denotes Shiva with Crescendo Moon on his head referring to Chandramouliswara Temple in Udupi. Any comments?? Subramanya 07:23, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Literacy rate--conflicting stats
editThe literacy rate under the heading Demographics (83%) doesn't match the rate given under Education (92%). Could someone straighten this out and give a citation? Thanks! DoorsAjar 01:46, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Restrict contents to Udupi town
editPlease restrict the contents of the article to those relevant to Udupi town. For content related to places in and around Udupi, Udupi district article is the right place, Thanks -- Amarrg 18:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, the Demographics section also currently has information on Udupi district :/ I suppose it should be replaced by information on the city. Nagarpedian (talk) 10:15, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
Kanakana kindi is distinct from Navagraha kindi
editI tried editing the page, but have been facing differences from other editors. I know for sure that kanakana kindi is the window, that can be seen from the inside AND outside of the temple, and above which kanaka gopura(the arch) has been built. Outside the temple, there is a statue of kanaka daasa erected too, and this faces the window. This window is not nine holed but has 3 bars. Navagraha kindi, however is the window that is right in front of the idol of Lord Krishna, and this has 9 holes. This is the window that has carvings of 10 incarnations of vishnu, NOT the other. It makes spatial sense too and matches the tales. The picture in the beginning, captioned 'Sri Krishna mata' is actually kanaka gopura and not the temple entrance. 117.198.115.79 (talk) 09:47, 28 January 2015 (UTC)rajatapeeta nivaasi
Tulu is not an official language of Udupi
editTulu is a regional language of Udupi. It is not an official language of this town.
Simple-man-everyday (talk) 16:22, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
- Tulu is the major language of Udupi. Other languages spoken are Kannada and Konkani. Kundagannada is spoken in Kundapura taluk of Udupi district, not Udupi town. I belong to coastal Karnataka and hence can vouch for this fact.--Pavanaja (talk) 12:38, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
'Tulu Nadu' is not an official region of Karnataka
editTulu Nadu is not an officially recognized region of Karnataka. Udupi is part of Coastal Karnataka (Kanara) region along with Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada.
Simple-man-everyday (talk) 16:22, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
- There is no official status for Tulunadu from any government. But people refer the Tulu speaking areas of coastal region as Tulunadu. This comprises of Kasaragod district of Kerala State, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka State.--Pavanaja (talk) 12:41, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
Demographics pie chart
editIt seems (from the citations, as well as my experience looking for demographic data for cities) that the religion pie-chart is for the population of the district and not the city. I propose that either we shift it to the appropriate page, or remove it altogether. Thanks! Tanyasingh (talk) 09:47, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
