I'm actually quite impressed with the sheer volume of the content. Sometimes if there is too much content in a page, you can create subpages (ie USS America (CV-66)/Vietnam)... Checking my copy of Admiral WH Smyth's Sailor's Word-Book: An Alphabetical Digest of Nautical Terms (1867), this use is not included. The closest is "Breaking Out" meaning breaking out the wares in the hold, under legal provision. One might conjecture that an admiral's flag was held in the hold until he took command, and therefore his flag was broken out. Jinian 18:30, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

So what did you think this statement at the bottom of the article means?

"This article includes text from the public domain Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships."

We're completely upfront about using DANFS's public domain text, hundreds of our ship articles do likewise (look at the "what links here" from the DANFS article to get a list). Can't be plagiarism if you credit your source! Stan 22:22, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Where are you getting location info?

CVN78.Com is my site and I served aboard America between 1/81 and 8/83. I updated the information regarding the exact position of the sinking as given by responses from the Department of the Navy to my FOIA Requests. A map of the location as well as the actual ship to shore transmission is also on the site. Ship's nickname

Having done 3 cruises and over 300 American traps, I never heard "Big A". The ship's callsign was "Courage". The three letter id was USA. Unless I see a reference, I'm throwing the BS flag... E2a2j 01:37, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Two C.O.s,two Nicknames, as bouched by Carpenter Arpa, Shipmates

The ship has both the ship's Commanding Officer and his so-called counterpart, the CAG Commanding Officer. The ship's nickname as by the ship's crew is "Big A", while the AIR WING or CAG-Carrier Air Group calls it "Courage". Temdu with the AirWing, I took the Aviation AirWarfare and Air Navigation Courses. The Aviation AirWarfare Program

Since the decommissioning of the USS America CV-66, will the newly commssioned USS America continue this program aboard for its crew? Hopefully it would. But us retiree would feel nicely if it does. will someone aboard on active duty reply for our knowing of it? it would be nice.
