For reasons seen below the article has been split into one covering the Bache of 1871 and this remnant of the stub for the 1901 ship. As even DANFS was confused and there is some confusion in NOAA mentions the specifications for the 1901 ship are conflated with the 1871 ship and need to be found in a new reference. Probable DANFS confusion G.M. Bache with A. D. Bache

DANFS is almost certainly confusing the George M. Bache mentioned in annual reports of the 1870s and possibly even an earlier vessel as noted in the NOAA GEORGE M. BACHE note. Reports covering FY 1900-1901 deal with a "new hull" and boiler with only machinery from a previous vessel transferred as my update of 4 February 2012 notes. Follow up into early records shows source of the problem with result "Dubious" removed and note changed. The question remains as to whether this is one or two vessels! The 1871 steamer's hull was judged unseaworthy in April 1899 and appropriations for FY 1901 covered a completely new hull and boiler with only some machinery and instruments from the old Bache transferred. It appears DANFS' dilemma on hulls is based on fate of the old hull and the birth of an entirely new ship with just some machinery and instruments of the old hulk. So, one or two ships? Post-government service

I know this falls under original research, but the 1931 Merchant Vessels of the United States (pp 106-107) shows the 1901 Bache registered as passenger steamer "Kingfisher" to Dalehite Boat Lines, Galveston, Texas with Official Number 230326, with tonnage 325 gross, 161 net, dimensions 154.6' x 26.2' x 6.9', 400hp steam. Builder is cited as Shooters Island, NY, 1901. She is listed as owned by Dalehite until the 1941 issue, which lists her as abandoned (p517), meaning she was likely scrapped in 1940.
