edit'troika' simply means "3 things of something", just like "pair" is "2 things of something"; it has no relation to horses, which is just another submeaning 77.40.23.152 (talk) 00:02, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Troika is not only used in the Southern countries to refer to the three finance & politics related institutions, which is what this article is implying. It's also widely used in Belgium, France, the UK and even in Germany by the mainstream media to refer to the concerning institutions. And I'm pretty sure that it's also used in the media of other European countries, although I don't understand the languages of those other countries.
