Demise of Tranz Metro
editI assume once Transdev takes over the Wellington contract, Tranz Metro ceases to exist as a KiwiRail division? Should we create a "Transdev Wellington" page and shift over the info in this article? --LJ Holden 23:24, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- I think we need to keep the separate Tranz Metro page detailing the operation between 1985(?) and 2016 in Wellington (as well as their pre-2003 Auckland operations), and merge many of the ancillary details into the respective line articles (Johnsonville, Kapiti, Melling, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa Connection, etc.). A Transdev Wellington page would detail operations from 2016 onwards. Who knows - KiwiRail could win the Auckland suburban contract and relaunch the Tranz Metro brand. - Yep, that's entirely possible. I'd be surprised if they kept the "Tranz" brand, being from Tranz Rail days. Perhaps a separate article such as Rail transport in Wellington could detail the metro passenger rail operation, plus other details (e.g. W&MR / Govt lines, etc.) along the lines of the Railways in Sydney article. Transdev will have separate entities in Auckland and Wellington - from what I can tell from their website (which interestingly says the contract will start in July) and the companies office (as well as Transdev Auckland Ltd there's also Transdev Wellington Ltd, both owned separately to [https://www.business.govt.nz/companies/app/ui/pages/companies/5164221 Transdev New Zealand Ltd) --LJ Holden 08:17, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- I'm moving parts of the article which should be in the Public transport in the Wellington Region article, as this one will eventually just be about Tranz Metro as a business unit of NZRC/NZRL/Tranz Rail/Toll Rail/KiwiRail --LJ Holden 00:24, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Rolling Stock and Motive Power: Carriage services
editThough I can't speak to current practice, as a former daily Wairarapa Connection commuter of 9 years, I have personally observed the occasional DFT-hauled Wairarapa Connection train. Proportionally, however, this was quite rare, as DFT locomotives are better utilised to haul freight trains. Use of DX locomotives was certainly not uncommon, but the DC class was definitely the primary motive power for the service. – Matthew25187 (talk) 06:16, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
