I came here to fix some unbalanced parentheses. The article seems basically sound (if a little long) but needs syntactical fixes, more paragraph breaks for readability, and some attention to run-on sentences. David Brooks 18:08, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

There doesn't seem a final agreement on the cleanup talk page whether to tag the article or the talk page. I'll leave it here for a few days. David Brooks 23:28, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Moved cleanup tag to main. David Brooks 17:40, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

The last paragraph makes me wonder if this is copyvio. I sent mail to the referenced author to check. David Brooks 23:28, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Ms Berg replied with email to me. In part: "Wikipedia need have no fear about using the material; I am pleased to be able to contribute to Mr. Selwart's professional standing even in this small way." David Brooks 18:52, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Just dropping a note letting you folks know I'm starting copy-editing on this one. I'll be doing some fairly substantial rewrites, breaking up paragraphs/run-ons, etc. If you have issues with any of my rewrites, feel free to have at them. KuriosD 07:54, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I'm more than a little confused by the section about his film appearances. "...Selwart made a total of more than 21 film appearances for Orson Welles..." I can't find any evidence that Orson Welles had anything to do with most of his film appearances, and this sentence would indicate that Welles somehow influenced 21 of the man's 23 film appearances. Could the original author please clarify?

Also, I've been looking over the article and am currently of the opinion that it would read better if completely reorganized. I should have a more complete re-write done some time tomorrow. KuriosD 08:19, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)

It looks like that sentence got mangled over the editing history of the article. The very first version of the article has it as:
"He made a total of 21 film appearences, including: The Barefoot Contessa (1954),Anzio (1968) and his last film appearence, The Other Side of the Wind (1968)." [1]
Then became:
"He made a total of 21 film appearances, including: The Barefoot Contessa (1954), Anzio (1968) and his last film appearance, The Other Side of the Wind (1972) for Orson Welles, still unreleased, a film Welles left reportedly largely unedited when he died in 1983 and from which Selwart as well as other cast and crew members had to be dismissed, through lack of funds" [2]
And at some point it was changed to the current version (either deliberately or accident):
"Selwart made a total of more than 21 film appearances for Orson Welles, including:" etc
I'm going to attempt to re-rewrite the sentence based on these older versions.--Sketchee 05:01, Feb 12, 2005 (UTC)
Sketchee, good catch. I had been digging through the older revisions trying to decypher that myself, and noticed the same thing. Interesting things seem to happen when some people try to "help".  :)
Nice start to the reorginization. I'm probably going to move a couple more things around (the comment about him being a soldier, for instance, which seems out of place). There's a consistency issue with the titles of productions, with some listed in italics and others in quotes. I'll be changing all of them to one or the other... Any suggestions?
Last, I notice you tend to use a lot of colons (:'s) in text, which although grammatically correct, is rather uncommon. Would you be terribly bothered if I changed the writing style to avoid them?

KuriosD 06:05, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Manual of Style (titles) says films should be italicized. I started changing them from quotes as I went through it but there's plenty more to go. I was using colons to make it easier to further break up the text. (There are a lost of lists that could probably be pulled out and bulleted instead.) Be bold. :) Sketchee 06:35, Feb 12, 2005 (UTC)
Old habit I have, trying to be a good samaritan rather than bold. I don't see it changing anytime soon.  ;) KuriosD 06:38, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
